Don't worry about the 800 pixel limit thing. Just post your pictures as links (the clickable thing that starts with "http://") and anyone who's interested can just click them to see your pictures.

I am sure you all know about the twlight zone, this is what its like for me when I'm on my computer, bloody well hard going, I push and push to get something right, and just when I think its there, it goes the other way and I end up frustrated, I know Sean did his best and Timmy C, and yes I do feel as if I've let them down by giving up, but to be quite blunt, I am completely useless at this, Jim said I have to make the photo's 800x something or other, I've gone over my system a hundred times, and can't access the part that will allow me to make them smaller.

Yep, you've got the first step done correctly, and will work for ALL pictures, regardless of size or dimensions.
The step that Sean shows does, however, consist of the following limit: The picture's width must be no wider than 800 pixels.
