Re: not a ship

Took a little break from the ships to build this little guy - Italeri (ex-ESCI) 1/72 M12 Gun Motor Carriage (155MM self-propelled howitzer).

Built for a buddy who's into the crawly thingies and wanted this from the hobby store. Italeri replaces the original Esci rubber tracks with individual track pieces (singles for the sprockets, longer ones for the flats and and diagonals). The kit does not provide spare tracks, so losing one piece meant either a field repair (original idea) or a "diorama of a diorama" museum piece - decided to merge the two, hence the sign, which is referenced from here. So I guess it's in the vein of a rough and dirty "freshly driven, demonstrated, and broken down" unit being show to the public, handwritten signage (0.3mm Micron pen) and all.

Replaced the towing and spade cables with twisted wire. Spade cable tackle/pulleys on the spade itself were fashioned from the ends of 1/350 PE cable reels originally destined for some IJN vessel.

Painted entirely with the hairy brush, which you can kinda see from some angles. Tamiya acrylics for the Olive Drab and Gunmetal. Vallejo MC for the various browns. Drybrush for the dry mud on the sides. Wet mud is acrylic soft gel mixed with Tamiya's Linoleum Deck Brown, with occasional dabs of Vallejo's Flat Brown and Brown Sand.

All in all, a fun diversion and excuse to buy Olive Drab and more brown paint. Now back to the floaty things!

Very nice work.

On the subject of 3D prints, I've just taken delivery of a new 3D kit of a somewhat larger subject. I don't know how well know it is outside of the UK but, in the late 70s we had a British answer to Star Trek in the form of Blakes 7. Our hero's flew a ship called the Liberator and, despite me being a huge Trek fan I still think, to this day, that it is the best sci-fi starship design of all time.

At 3 feet long, the kit is the same size as the original filming miniature.

Almost a year since this thread had some new life, so here are a bunch of 3d printed figures I painted for our Dorks (dungeons) & Dragons game! Edit, not sure why half the pics are sideways here, they aren't that way on my computer...

This is the last completed project from my day job. This model is typical of what we do: large scale acrylic structures with computer controlled lighting. Scales vary wildly, depending on the size of the building, but this one was 1/96th. My main contribution to the project was the many pieces of furniture, mostly drawn in Rhinoceros v7 and printed on our Epax and Formlabs 3 printers, with some saw and laser work where appropriate.

Trumpeter's 1S91 SURN KUB radar, known to us Cold War vets as the STRAIGHT FLUSH radar for the SA-6 GAINFUL missile system. Trumpeter released the SA-6 TEL several years ago.

Very nice!

I have their 1/350 Millennium Falcon and 1/1000 CR90 Corvettesure wish the latter was available in the former's scale!

I always forget this thread is here. Over the past month I've finished the following two Bandai 1/72nd scale kits, the B-Wing (limited release Comic Con edition) and the X-Wing, finished as Wedge's Red 2.
