Cabin Class models can build you one. I think you might be able to spot a plastic kit on Ebay occasionally. http://cabinclass.com/pages/services/mo ... ndence.htm

Does anyone know if there are still models of the independence for sail? I sailed on that ship in 1967 when it had the sunburst painted on the hull. It was the first ship of my career.

HELLO! Well now that is a very well done ship.I couldn,t help but notice you build similar to the way a paper model is done. This ,I find is the best way to do "TRAIN SCALED SHIPS".I have been doing them for some time now and I must say that it is nice to have someone out there that sees construction methods as I do. That is a beautiful rendition of that ship. I only wish I had som really good pics of the NORMANDIE, because she,s what I would build next. I also must say you have a clean painting style too.Keep on keeping on. commodore4

The original Independence seems to have been given a few extra weeks before she get cut up in small pieces. http://beta.thehindu.com/sci-tech/artic ... epage=true

Windjammer arts has some very nice plans available for Rafaello. patrick camilleri wrote: Pieter, Can't decide between the Conte di Savoia, Normandie or Raffaello. At the moment I reckon I will go for Normandie, however, to avoid the poblems I had with cracking of the hull in my last build I think I will set up the basic hull and wait a couple of months for it to dry out completely............while I'm waiting I'll build the Airfix QM2. Can't say I like the look of that ship ....but I suppose I do need to add a modern barge to my collection

Saw your pics arrive in our gallery email. Sean will most likely get to them first (as he usually does). But WOW, what a cool paint job you have accomplished.

The Idependence is finally complete! This is a picture of the real ship compared to a picture of the model. I've sent a number of pictures to Tim and I imagine they will appear in the gallery in due course. Patrick

Haven't worked on the Indy model for some months. My eldest daughter was married at the end of June so I had other things to keep me busy. Went back to the Indy and ....disaster ..... I found the hull cracked in 5 or 6 places. Could be the summer heat got to it. 36+ temperatures aren't very kind to plastic. I think I'll consider vac-forming the hull next time I build a ship with these complicated curvatures. The damage meant re-gluing, refilling and re-spraying the hull. I painted the boot topping today .... so it will soon be back as it was. A quarter of the run rays were removed during this operation and now have to be re-applied. The worst thing is that the freshly airbrushed white is so much whiter than the rest of the model where the white has aged. It will be a few months before the freshly painted areas match with the ones painted earlier. Luckily the sunrays break up the hull and it is not easy to notice the difference. The pictures show the model during the repair process.

[quote="NukeMM"]Patrick,
Is this the same ship?
Yes, Indy was launched in 1950 so she was a relatively new ship when your father took those photos. In fact she appears in her original livery.
