It's been a while since I've posted and my Empress of Britain project is on hold for now but I'm always happy to see any detailed photos of ships and models, they can be enigmas when not fully documented.

Hi, I've got a model of the Empress of Britain (1956) that I found in an antiques shop in London. Its about a metre in length. Its a old model and the funnel is missing, but i'm interested in restoring it as its a beautiful ship and a great model. I have no idea of the models history but there is high level of detail and someone obviously took a long time to make it. If interested i'm more than happy to put some photos up

It's been a while since I've posted anything and so here is a little bit of updated information.

I have planked about 75% of the hull so far and it is slow going from now on because all i have left to do are the complicated curves of the stern and the carving of the bow and stern blocks.

I have also began work on the boat deck as well as mapping out the circuits for the running gear and lights that i hope to include in the model.

I have 8 days left before I switch to full time at work for the summer and so I hope to get plenty more done on the boat deck as well as get some pictures of my progress posted.


Also if anyone has any pictures of the Empress, especially of the deck lamps that they could post i would be greatly appreciative.

Great to see progress on what I am sure will be a beautiful model liner.
Hopefully your wood planks will show up soon and you can get back to work.

Hello all, it's been a while since I've posted anything but I do have an explanation. I am currently out of 1/16" balsa and so I am waiting for a pack of 100 pieces that I got for a steal to come in the mail. While I've been waiting, there isn't much else I can do.

Below are some pictures of the few things I have accomplished recently.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures, my computer is dark and screws up my pics a bit so it may be better from your ends.

File comment: I managed to piece together a funnel out of scrap pieces of balsa but I've since filled it with wood filler that was far too thick so I will have to epoxy and sand it to a better shape later on.

File comment: A package I ordered from Britain came in the mail a few days ago but they forgot 4 lifeboats and sadly the individual planks I ordered for the decks were out of stock. I had to remove the top bar from the railings and later on I will paint them white and add a wooden bar to the top. Unfortunately the railings are quite tall compared to the people that will go on the model and i couldn't find any 1:200 scale railings with any more than 3 bars.

File comment: I painted roughly 40 people to go on the model including about 10 crew members. Luckily I had a tiny paintbrush.

Hello all who may be watching! :big_grin:

Planking has begun and I have many pictures to share. I am planking the model with 1/16" balsa in what can most accurately be described as eclectic patchwork. :big_grin:

As usual, here they are with captions and such.

And I got a new camera!

I haven't got much progress done on the bridge yet but here are a few more pictures just cause.

All of the pieces were cut out of 1/32" plywood.

Regardless of which ship I finish the model as, the bridge structure remains the same and so I have decided to begin work on it. After I post this I will begin tracing out the templates.

Below are some close up pictures of the bridge diagrams on the plans. :big_grin:

Yeah, I'm quite conflicted. I really do like the Queen Anna Maria layout but it would put a tear in the eye of all the true patriots (not that I'm not one) who want to see her as the Empress. And all it would take to end my strife is a plan of the TSS Olympia. :\

the cp empress,s always seemed second fiddle to the big queens,but they have a soft spot in my heart because they are canadian.looking forward to your build.

Yeah which is good on one hand cause I wont have to modify the stern but on the other hand I do so love the layout of the Queen Anna Maria.

It's been a while since I've been on here and all of my models from last year have been pushed to the back of my mind to make room for new projects. But not all hope is lost, one of my new projects is another model!

This time I chose to build the Empress of Britain III and I ordered the plans online so I will not have to worry about taping a whole bunch of papers together and I am already well on my way to actually finishing this one.

She will be RC and I also hope to give her working lights. She's in 1:200 scale which gives her a length of roughly 40 inches. I plan to paint her as her intended namesake i.e. the Empress of Britain.

Below are some pictures for you to enjoy! :big_grin:

File comment: Here is my progress so far, I'm just about to fill in the space at the bow and stern with balsa wood or foam.

File comment: The only problem I've had so far is the alignment of the ribs, I hope to fix the twisted hull with beams running just below the deck line before i begin planking.
