Thank you for that, since I posted I have figured out that the Aussie ships are actually modified Acheron or I class but called the River Class in Oz service. Still in research stage on HMAS Yarra and Brit destroyers in general and your photo and the link have gone to part of that. I'll be having a look for the book you pointed out as well. Thanks muchly you said you started Swale have you finished her? Cheer Callum

Thank you. @ Forlornhope: I did start a River class destroyer from Palmers: HMS Swale Attachment:

Plan comes from Edgar J. March "British Destroyers" Here is a nice build by Kazec of another River class: HMS Chelmer (yet not from Palmers, not enough funnels for my taste ) http://forum.hknma.com/showthread.php?t=2075
Thank you.

This is some fantastic work going on here. I have had look at your other projects as well and feel very inspired to have a go at an Aussie River class of this period in the near future. I hope you have more projects on the go and if you have a River in your collection I don't suppose you could tell me what plans you used for it? Cheers Callum

Thank you for your comments Puddy. I really like the Parmers' destroyers of that period, they are really nice looking (they often had many funnels: one per boiler). Yet Sailing on these low tiny boats may not have been fun all the time I also have a WW1 Tribal from Palmers in progress: HMS Viking. In fact I have two helpers, here is the other one: Attachment:

Love your helper. I have one very similar. My grandfather commissioned this ship in Tyneside just before ww1 and I am named after her. he certainly would have appreciated your model.

Having recently built a period destroyer in the same scale, I appreciate your scratchbuilt work all that much more; it's fantastic!

Looking good. Can you describe your technique for the life boats? I have not been able to figure out how to scratchbuild convincing open life boats myself.

Hi, Here's an update on the scratchbuilt boats (plastic sheet, electric wire and CA glue) Attachment:

Attachment:
File comment: Main boats painted (not very well) and berthon boat
HMS-BONETTA_22.JPG [ 47.44 KiB | Viewed 3890 times ]
I also began weathering the ship. First overall paint layers were satin black and then flat black on the deck and forecastle floor. After this thinned red brown (heavily thinned for the deck, a bit less on the sides). I think I will add another lighter brown and some very light grey (but I'm posting this picture before I mess it all ) Attachment:

Thank you Islander. Well the bridge is simply made of 0.3mm plastic sheets. After pic "turtle deck in progress" I added a sheet to make the floor, the canvas was simulated with a plastic sheet where I sraped the areas between the (fictive) stanchions. Here is a (too close) view, hope it helps. Attachment:

Hi, Love your helper and build. Very interesting to see the progress. One question, though. How did you construct the bridge? Cheers, John
