Thank you tausugair... but I'm still an old little baby padawan compared to JB

Here are a few pics of the finished model on which an uncle of my father sailed during WW1.

Mr. JB and Moomoon . . both of your are master modelers, and your works are the source of inspiration and enthusiasm to me and my first attempt at this work. .

Mr. JB - thanks for the additional info on the boats/davits!!

Best regards...

Well, Mr. JB, you're buiding ship models, I'm building fragile toys... I'll try your method sometime, thanks

Not wanting to intrude....

But you can hang the boats from davits two ways:

1) on some vessels the boats was suspended from the davits and then lashed against the griping spar by diagonal cross-over straps- in the model- glue the boat to the spar and simulate the davit falls with sprue or PE

( illustrated in the link below )

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_poOMUbd3H4k/TPyT_bpmwWI/AAAAAAAAAKU/GYLKhBiwNNg/owering%20,%20hoisting%20equipment%20for%20life%20boat.jpg

2) or... insert fine wire-..tungsten or similar into the boat. make a small hook shape at the upper end.

glue and it hangs...

or make a jig to support boat, and use butt glue joint as below in my Wien

sorry Moomoon! :thumbs_up_1:

On my Mangini (and also on older model Giuseppe La Masa), the boats are not hung from the davits, they're perched on an electric wire: you can see it going down vertically from the middle of the boat to the ship's hull between davits...

I did better on HMS Bonetta (wire used on Mangini was too thick).

Hello tausugair,
The ladders are from L'Arsenal (ref AC 700-02) and are quite standard I think.
There 3 different lenght: 7mm, 5mm & 3.5mm
For each lenght there are 5 with a 0.75mm width and 5 with a 1mm width.

In the past I simply used thin plastic stips...

Waiting for your Wickes pics...

Moomoon, thanks for the information! . . Your "in the past" suggestion is worthy of note, thanks.. . . Now, I wonder how the 700th scale boats are hung from the davits?

I'm not modeling the Wickes, but the USS RIZAL 174 which I don't have the plan.. but, I try to work it out using composite of other ships' in the class... and I hope I'm doing (now is) the right thing.... Again, thanks..

Hi, Moomoon..
I can't help being fascinated looking at the two inclined ladders (going up the bridge). . .I have reduced a Wickes top view into 700th scale . .in about the same location similar ladders are noticeable.. Can this be taken as typical, more or less, in all ships of this type? . . and, the ladders measure out at 0.75mm (+/-) wide in said scale (1/700th). . . I'd appreciate advice on how to do these... Many thanks...

(P.S. - I'm new to Ship Modeling)...

thank you Bob and donalyah.

Rigging is done at last - ouf!
Simplified, not so strait and clean, but I'll cope with it.

Thanks for the tutorial.
I'll try stretched sprue with my next ship, I had prepared this one for human hair rigging that's much more romantic!

Hello,

Funnel and boats glued, weathering added: thinned very light grey, black, and two different reddish browns.
Still have to add some details on the rear bridge and then the much feared rigging...
