Topic review - Discovery of USS EDSALL (DD-219)

That photo is snipped from the one taken of (allegedly) DD-219 escorting a troopship between Australia & Java early in the war.

The youtube video is of more value for its footage than the (AI-sounding) commentary. Knowledge of flushdeckers seems minimal.
Asiatic Fleet destroyers were never painted white, for example, but a v. light gray.

1) Of note on wreck is the clear image of .50cal guntubs on the aft end of the midships deckhouse.

2) The port 4"/50cal is pointing exactly as might be expected given the location of her assailant CHIKUMA before the ship lost steering...

3) Huge hole fwd of after deckhouse is where a fuel compartment met ammo magazines/handling room for 3", 4", and torpedo warheads.

4) Stern damage might be consistent with detonating depth charges.

5) Bow 4" gun is facing forward, consistent w/IJN spotters who could see it in the locked-down position during the long pursuit/battle.

There's already a video about the wreck, with an actual composite photo, up on YouTube

Within that video is this pictures, which I "assume" the creator of the video is suggesting is Edsall.

Here's a view (same but larger) showing one of her four triple torpedo mounts nearby and a large section of something else---not tubes, apparently--also not far away, in upper L.

The US Naval Institute posted an "image" of the wreck on it's FB page: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1HygzTaevE/

For those who don't have FB....

Sadly the Post article is pay walled.
Wouldn't really have any real info in the empty post anyway.
Thanks

Believe it or not...found (upright on the seabed) after over 82 years. Dicovered by the RAN.

Also a video (at Instagram) via our Ambassador to Australia & the RAN CNO has appeared already.

Wash. Post article just came up online, too, tho' I've not read it myself.
