hmm..when i look on google maps i can find Enterprise, Roosevelt and Truman in the Harbour of Norfolk. George Bush is in the North in Newport News as is another Nimitz(Vinson ? Ike? anyone knows?) In the Norfolk Navy Shipyard is a fifth Nimitz which i also cannot identify(Vinson or Ike i suppose?). Help aprecciated. There are also 11 Burkes, 2 Tarawas an 2 Wasps in Norfolk..quite impressive. Nimitz is in San Diego, Kitty in Yokosuka. America is in Philadelphia, Connie, Ranger and Independenca are in Bremerton and Forrestal and Sara in Newport, Rhode Island. Anyone spotted another active carrier? I also can`t find Midway.

Nothing odd at all! The Des Moines was stored in Philly for decades and then was towed to Texas for scrapping last year. The Brownsville Texas images are simply newer than the Philly images, thus 1 ship in 2 places at the same time! I'm just very happy to see: 42°14'38.53"N 70°58'11.60"W ... in the same place for 13 years and counting.

Not really ship related, but it's also pretty facinating to scroll across parts of England looking for all of the old bomber strips. It is impressive how many there are/were.

Here's a "hidden" one:

While it'd be cool to see her from space, it's nice they keep her covered.

Not quite as sad. Nice. Wonder what ever happened to the plans to move her permantly into a drydock, or close off her berth and pump it dry. Have to say, I was thrilled to visit her back in 2003, but was less than impressed with her as a museum.

What is that ship close to Des Moines, significantly larger, virtually stripped to the keel, and showing signs of longitudinal bulkheads as part of some underwater defense system? Is it a carrier hull?
