Fast forward nearly five years and we have new 1/700th plastic kits from IBG: http://www.ibgmodels.com/ships.htm
I have Slazak and Kujawiak; they look very good in the box, finely molded and with a fair amount of PE included.
If these kits are good sellers maybe we can hope for more from IBG. Blyskawica and Grom especially, and maybe even Dragon or Conrad?

Hi all!

Just found this thread while trying to get some info on the BLYSKAWICA. I have models of both the wz44 and the wz65 kits from Mirage (1/400 scale). I got a little overzealous when I started the wz44 kit, sanded off all the details to I could add PE, etc... then let it sit for 5 years and now can't remember locations of rails, ladders, etc.

I thought I would just use the wz65 kit as a reference but then realized the configuration is probably too different even though both kits are listed as WWII ships.

Can anyone tell me what the difference in the configuration is between the two? I am having a hard time finding any detailed information on this question. Also, what would be a good PE set for detail? I noticed someone asked about the best configuration to use for the water tight doors but didn't see an answer on that. I am assuming that British-oriented PE sets would be the best choice since the destroyer was actually built in England, so should I stick to that theory or would any U.S. destroyer detail sets work?

Thanks for any info you can provide!

BTW "ORP" means Ship of Republic of Poland.

Dear Mike, for Blyskawica, the 'L' is a Polish character and has a right-to-left slant down line through it and said like English 'W'.

Please say 'BWISKAWEETSA' with emphasis on 'EE'

Hello to everyone!
Please forgive errors as this is my first post.
In reply to the question concerning the decks of O.R.P. Burza, I have a photo of my parents standing aboard her late in the war period and the decks can be seen not being of wooden construction, but definately steel.
She was my fathers first ship after joining the Polish Navy at Gdynia in 1928 and he sailed to Plymouth in her. Later he was transferred to O.R.P Kujawiak and was a survivor of her sinking in June 1942. After hospital he was again with Burza until almost end of war then with O.R.P Conrad for short time. Burza was his favourite 'lucky' ship! O.R.P Blyskawica is moored in Gdynia harbour only 5 minutes walk from family home!

I am new to ship modelling and want to build nice model of Burza. Can anyone advise which is best one?

I have bought the ORP Grom in her 1940 fit and I see that she wore 507c on all vertical surfaces with 507a decks, plus maybe some linoleum? She also had a bow wave painted white with an olive green center?

Would anyone else care to comment on these colors?

Be careful with the Garland kit, there are some inaccuracies which only really became apparent to me after somebody mentioned them, but the size and arrangement of the funnels is the most obvious, also the stern is not quite the right shape.

As for Nizam, she looks a little fat to me, could you check and post the beam dimension of the model?

Whilst not quite a handful, I certainly think it is possible to build all the Polish and Polish crewed ships of WW2. HP also do some of the smaller vessels, minesweepers and the minelayer Gryf, and submarines, though the Niko Orzel is very nice.

In any case an interesting plan Magnus, I have a little information on Polish ships but would be willing to help out if and where I can.

The Polish Navy used only a handful of vessels during WWII and most of them (if not all) are available in resin in 1/700 scale.

The fact that the number of ships is limited is one of the reasons why I chose this theme for my 1/700 "collection".

I intend to post the models I have; we have been discussing the actual ships for a while, but I thought it is time to show what is actually out there.

This first post contains images of my kits from HP Models. Some ships are also made by Niko, and I wanted to avoid doubles, so I did not buy those particular ships from HP Models.

Nevertheless, here are the models of Polish ships from HP Models:
