Haha it is, I had problems getting it well lit in time so I had some spawn issues. I thought it added an interesting touch so I just left him in there. There's also a random enderman (tall skinny black creature) walking along the deck near the end of the musical portion. It's like playing where's waldo.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I hope it does well, but even if it doesn't it's so worth it just to learn so much about the ship. Now that I've gotten the contest submission done I will be slowing down a little bit because I've put around 20 hours in the last week working on it, but soon I'll work on more details. I am sort of itching to get the erroneous gallery deck fixed. Even though it looked decent it bugs me that I had to cut corners to submit.

I second that WOW!
Now that's some progress update, seems like it was just a couple weeks ago when you started it. Good luck with the contest cope, let us know how you make out. I love it! :thumbs_up_1:

I finally "finished" the ship for the contest. The exterior is most of the way done, but I did have to rush through the gallery deck and half of the gallery deck is not finished. But, since time was running out I just sort of closed off the unfinished areas and made it look presentable and made my submission video. So, I'll share it with the community here since you guys have been so great so far in giving advice on the build. So, without further adieu...

The decks are laid down up to the main deck and I'm getting ready to close in the hull. Time for another progress video!

It's probably a good call not going with the mods, it would be a shame to have your ship just disappear after all that work.

Looking forward to more,
Dean

We actually made the decision to go without mods altogether and got it moved over to our "new" server. So, it's good I did that when I did.

I will probably be finishing it up in creative mode which is a little easier since I don't have to worry about gathering materials but no less epic. There's an epic builds contest going on that I may want to enter it in so I'm on a time limit to finish it by the end of next week. So there might be a lot of progress videos coming quickly if I do actually make it in time!

Progress video time!

I've got the 4th deck laid down and made some pretty major design decisions. I talk about them in the video so be sure to check them out!

You might actually want to go to the video page instead of viewing it in forum for the underwater portions, crank up the quality and full screen it. It's kind of hard to see the underwater details when it's scaled down for the forums.

I'm interested to hear any feedback and suggestions!

Quick update. We have been upgrading our minecraft server and I have been waiting for the installation of a couple mods. But we are back online and upgraded to the latest and greatest and I will be posting more progress videos soon. Stay tuned! :thumbs_up_1:

It was definitely a lot of work to get it dried out. I picture what it would be like if real life were like minecraft. She's taking on water! .. Oh, no worries, there's a beach! Grab the sand! We're saved!.. lol It makes me realize just how ridiculous minecraft physics are, but it's still a great outlet for your creativity.

I'd love to see this inspire other projects, that's sort of the whole point of sharing it as I work on it. My next step (after a few days of downtime from the 6 hour sand fill marathon) is labeling the frame numbers inside the hull and outlining the walls for the rooms in the hold. I'm not real sure on the interior yet. I'm fairly certain in order to keep the exterior accurately scaled I'm going to have to cut out a couple decks. I was thinking that I may scale down the hangar area some and do some de-duplicating on the rooms. Like three levels of wardrooms and showers might need to be condensed to two levels just to make things fit. I'm hoping I don't have to sacrifice too much but like I said, reality and minecraft are two different things, so I'll get as close as I can.

Edit: Oh yeah, we do have pumps in one of our mods, but it's slow and doesn't work as you think it would. There's also a chance it may start pumping water from the surrounding ocean which i didn't want. So, I got to do it the hard way. Ah well, it's a proper tribute to the Big E to struggle and come through on top, so that's how I look at it :cool_2:

The amount of work there is kind of frightening! I'm not that up on how to construct with Minecraft, but isn't there a 'pump' function or something?

This is definitely giving me some ideas as well - I'm wondering how the Tennessee would work as a Deathmatch map in Doom 3 :cool_1:

Damn, that's A LOT of water! Where's a dry-dock when you need one.

It's looking good though, and that's one milestone down, got to feel good about that.

Finally, the water is all out. It took almost 6 hours or work but I got it done. :woo_hoo:

I've posted a timelapse of the process at 32x speed, and still the video is over 11 minutes. But, hopefully it gives an idea of the scale of the project yet again. Enjoy! :thumbs_up_1:

Thanks for the feedback, Dean. I'm trying to give as many perspectives as possible just to reflect the sheer scale. The timelapse video that is coming up should do a good job of that as well because it will be an overall view of the ship with my character looking like a busy ant climbing all over the hull. For now I'm posting my last view of the bathtub/swimming pool. I know I said the last video would be my last one before the timelapse but now that I hit waterline and closed the hull completely I wanted a landmark video for hitting my first major goal. So, without further adieu...

Ha, that's for sure. It's more of a marathon than a sprint.

That being said, I finished the hold and I got all the planning done for the second platform. I'm posting a short video on how I'm doing the conversions and getting my measurements since it is a major step in laying down each deck. If you guys have any advice on more efficient ways to do it I'm all ears.

Now that the second platform is all planned I will be laying it down shortly, wish me luck! :cool_2:
