I think it was about a years time, on and off in evenings and weekends. After builing models all day and contiunue on this after work, you end up the next day real drained. But in the end it came out real nice. I also wanted to see how much the program itself could take he he

Jacques,

Very nice work. How long, calendar time, did it take you to create this model?

Wow, absolutely amazing work. I can tell I have a long way to go w/ my 3D modeling, haha.

I have the RoG Snowberry kit, and the excellent Shipcraft book, and have seriously considered 3D modeling portions of the ship to either have the parts 3D printed, or use them to create plans so I can scratch build various parts.

I have never done 3d printing but it can be exported in various formats, if needed. Maybe one can even print directly from this program. But if i had such a printer id do it lol, and make my own scratchbuild parts. ^^)

That's really great work! Especially the exploded views of the pom-pom, for scratch building one. Is this the same as a CAD drawing? If so, can you use the data for 3D printing parts, or even the entire ship in various scales? :wave_1:

Been using Sketchup for just over 7 years now. This is achievable with the free version i suppose. Sketchup is a very basic and easy program to learn. But you get plugins that make the program great for modelling. I must honestly say, doing this out of the box (free version, no plugins) would definitely be a challenge tho) It will probably just take longer.
For example, if you have 3 faces, and want to make it thicker and they all are angled, with the basic (no plugins) you will only be able to extrude (or thicken) one face at a time, where say with plugins you can thicken all 3 at once, saving you time.
Plugins are free, 99% of them. Just google sketchup rubies, or go to sketchucation, its a sketchup forum, and look for plugins. A lot of guys there make their own, and is very helpful. Then using a render plugin you have to purchase (vray) i rendered these out, also kind of a steep learning curve.

Yes, ditto the thanks for sharing, also very inspiring. Hadn't heard of Sketchup before, so found 'em on the web, but tell me (us) did you do this with the free version, or with the Pro?

Wow! Thank you for sharing all this. It's an excellent model, not just in the amount of detail but in the texturing and presentation as well.

Bravo and thank you!

It is very interesting what you write about modeling the ocean surface in sketchup  However you did it looks excellent. Cbapeau bas!

he he thanks.
The ocean was modeled also in sketchup, the rendered images shows kind of how i achieved it when you go threw it. This process took me over a year to make, biting my lip not knowing the program could handle it. Hopefully someone could use it. I took the basic dimensions from the revell 1:72 kit, and had it as a guidance :D
