How about pig bristle from artist's brush (Olaf's signature made me think of this) so I went and checked mine out - might work, synthetics too. At least you don't run the risk of alienating the mogg or dog if they're not shedding, or are bald...
Anyway, good idea Jim,

I'm not sure what I would do when trying to make a choice for the lesser evil ~ plucking whiskers from a boxer or from a horse... ouch!

Nice tip anyway :thumbs_up_1:

Hi Guys--this was asked over at Steel Navy

>>>>> what to use for 1/700 whip ariels <<<<<

Here is my answer--I thought it may be useful to share this!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have used very succesfully.... in 1/700 on a Patrol boat...

CAT HAIR !!!!

-tapered, pointed, and white!

In larger scales DISCARDED (needs to be stressed--DISCARDED!!!)

white CAT whiskers work very effectively--they can also be curved (to represent bending in wind) by placing in hot water, curving and allowing to 'set'

In 1/72 --ie MTB's - find a Boxer Dog ( for example) and check out those whiskers--Horses also can be a suitable source---again discarded is preferable-- ever tried plucking a whisker from Boxer dog...!!!!

Here is a link to my 1/72 MTB -built 13 years ago(!!) using Horse whisker ariels
