I served on FIFE in the late 70's. Although you don't appreciate it at the time, you look back and a think what a privilege it was to serve on such an iconic class of warship. They were big and fast and good sea boats. The day I joined FIFE all seven still in service were tied up at Fountain Lake Jetty in Portsmouth. Amazing sight. Hope a decent 1/350 County comes along soon.

Such lovely ships. When will we ever get a decent one in 1:700?? Are the metal Meridian kits out of stock?

Great looking build there Whalerman. Any chance for some closeup shots? Gents, are there any plans available for this class save for the ones on Fleetscale.com? http://store.fleetscale.com/index.php?_a=product&product_id=479That's an awful lot of money for just a side and top view. Its says there's 6 pages but zero description or sample images beyond the first shot. I'm looking for something more akin to the USN General Booklet of Plans style plans if possible. I know how hard it is to find RN plans. I'm looking to scratchbuild a 1/700 version so I need some sort of drawings but I really don't want have to spend $127 on just a side and top view. Any and all help is appreciated as always, -Mike

Seriously, this thread doesn't exist?! For shame guys, for shame! This should be a nice start for photos. A VERY nice set of close ups taking of HMS Hampshire (D06) in the Pool of London from 1970. Oh, did I mention they are all HIGH-RES?! http://www.flickr.com/photos/daviddb/with/7141555737/#photo_7141555737Some nice shots of the Countys in Portsmouth as well as other shots of the harbor's residents including Cruisers, auxiliaries, and tugs. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mainstay/with/6093448172/#photo_6093448172Here's a link to what Flickr has on the class, some nice shots indeed! Remember to use the "view page info" trick if they're blocked from downloading. http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=county+class+destroyer&f=hpHere's two very nice high-res shots of HMS London (D16) underway in 1982 http://www.defenseimagery.mil/imagery.html#guid=8fc54fbd92df998f77a599bc8834138d68805991http://www.defenseimagery.mil/imagery.html#guid=a317b1fdf6ebf93099bdc924441e80bc2b2d5211Now...when will a decent kit of one of those majestic ships materialize? Beside the old Airfix kit and a resin version (long OOP, Skytex?) are there any other kits out there?
