man, learning how to make PE would be my dream also here, as so much can be done with it that you cant get with 3D or with store bought options. Do you mind sharing some sources you used to learn, what guided you? Id like to learn it too (design) - and then order someone to etch as I dont feel like starting a chemistry class at home. .)

The result of the flower class looks super good, well done, nice color tones.

I used https://www.etchworks.eu/ for the actual etching. I ignored the warning that is flagged when visting their website as I am happy it is only a certificate issue - but your call.

With regard to the actual designing of the etch I'll write something up later and post here.

.... and she is finished. HMS Jonquil shortly after her refit at Sheerness in April 1942. The model is scratch built and based on three well known photos, and so I have had to make a lot of educated guesses as to the details. 82 separate pieces of PE, and 38 bits of after market resin, plus plastic card, wire and putty. Very pleased with the end result.

and pretty much finished - I just need to pluck up the courage to move her across to her base. Cup of tea first I think

Rigging here looks darker in the photo than actuality, hopefully the final matt varnish will help it "thin" down a bit

Beautiful little jewel! Outstanding work so far! :woo_hoo:
Question about the hull construction: did you cover the epoxy putty with styrene panels or just sanded the putty to shape?

Looking forward to see the finishing touches

I used magic sculpt to bulk out the shape, but covered this with a layer of miliput, as I find that sands more easily and sharply. I then rough painted with Mr Surfacer, find sanded that (almost polish) and then sprayed a final layer of Mr Surfacer which gave a nice smooth surface on which to work.

Still work to be done, but a quick dry fit into her seascape.

and where we are today, pretty much complete, with first matt varnish applied. Just the ships boats, their davits, the mast and a couple of carley floats to be added. I'll then finish off with the rigging and some crew.

I'm coming to the end of this build, but will share a few photos of the build in progress.

Started the build in December last year building the hull shape and major superstructure elements

I then spent all of January learning to use Illustrator and designing my own PE parts, with this being received back from the etchers at the end of Feb.

at which point I could continue the build
