No, not a surprise at all. It's not worth it to them to make it "exact", and 98% of the people building it won't know, or care.

Thank you. Yours is an excellent evaluation of the kit.
That HobbyBoss reused the Titanic kit mold for much of the kit cannot be much of a surprise. A disappointment, yes.

The fore and aft welldecks are quite good. Although there is also a bizarre element at the aft part that I dont understand.    My biggest problem with the forecastle is that the decking under the anchor rails is missing. It's completely smooth. They could have imitated that.  Some of the superstructures on the boat deck are basically not bad. But, here too, the mistakes need to be fixed: windows and doors are missing, or in the wrong place, or there are there but they shouldn't be. I know, nothing is good for me... [img] download/file.php?mode=view&id=160510[/img]     Unfortunately, the photo-etching doesn't include much. I would have liked to have seen the big cranes, for example, but never mind, I've already ordered the Tom's Modelworks kits, they have them. The stickers wouldn't be bad, but some of them seem to be printed wrong.  Well, that's all I noticed at first, and the rest will come out during the construction. If I overlooked something, or you see something I didn't, don't hesitate to write it down

1/700 HMHS Britannic from Hobby Boss |

Greetings! This first post will be limited to just introducing the kit, I won't start building it now, because I have quite a few unfinished projects, but you'll see them here in the topic if I jump on it. First of all, I never thought that the Titanic's siblings would ever appear as plastic models. I think many of us were very happy with it. It's a real gap-filling model. I'm really grateful for it. But... Here in Hungary, I could have indicated at most 1-2 webshops that I wanted one, but since its release, nothing has happened. So I finally ordered one from eBay a few weeks ago. Bob Read's available drawings, photos, a few of my books, and the HMHS Britannic PC game also helped with the comparison. Let's look at the box: well, it didn't work out completely. If you look closely, they drew the characteristics of the Britannic on a Titanic hull, but for example, they didn't work on the windows.  The hull is also a Titanic model according to the engraving. In truth, few depraved people will count that all the windows are in place. But it is a fact that the extra plates of the hull are incomplete, and a few small things are in the wrong place.   The first thing I looked for were the large gantry davits. Well, these need to be replaced. The mechanism that helps the cranes operate is also too simple, the rail that guides the small arms will need to be replaced.  The superstructure (boat deck, A, B deck sides) actually follows the lines of the real ship based on the drawings and photos. However, due to the limits of plastic molding, it might have been better if the large divided windows had remained one larger opening. Repairing this will be a piece of shi....  Many of the small parts are surprisingly nice. I didn't check to see if each fan is facing the right way or if their engine housings are completely correct, but overall their main features resemble those on the Britannic. I think they made the most of the plastic, but e.g. the boat cranes also need to be replaced.  [img] download/file.php?mode=view&id=160502[/img] I'm not happy with the funnels. They are similar to the previous Revell solution, the details on the surface are simply oversized. However, the little whistles are not bad. I will replace the steam outlets. [img] download/file.php?mode=view&id=160503[/img] Anyone who wants something perfect, or at least close to it, will have to make a lot of improvements: Almost every part of the superstructure has flaws. Windows, doors are missing or are in the wrong place. One of the characteristics of the Britannic, besides the cranes, is that the superstructure in the rear has been completely redesigned. Certain elements of the aft deck are good, but the shade deck has no deck planking. Which I don't understand because the B and C decks are completely covered with planks (no one will ever see anything of them).  I have another problem with the poop deck: I don't see a small structure on the drawings, I can't make it out from the photos, but it's there in the game and on the model. I haven’t got photos from the wreck, so maybe Hobby Boss did just right. The rest is easier to show in the attached pictures.
