Last night, assembly of the aft mast began The mast is up, the crane has received a small piece of PE that required 5 Lilliputian bends This ugly pellet has received a little putty to disappear: Let's move on to the crane, which will be replaced by a PE version: We're on a piece of hell... Each horizontal section has three folds, as does each vertical section... and, of course, despite taking every possible precaution, the sections did not stay together. After several attempts and a great deal of swearing (some of it exquisitely original), I gave up and will resume work calmly this evening... It takes a big dose of masochism, though!

Excellent work so far, Yuth! Questions: - are you spraying ordinary acrylic paint on the styrene/brass surfaces without any preliminary priming? if so, how's the sticking of the paint/resistance to scratch? The pictures seem to suggest an optimal result. - this is the first time i come across Parafilm M. It looks like an easy-to-apply material and you say it's time saver if compared to ordinary masking tape. would you give some advice/tips/do's and don'ts on how to use it? Cheers, SG

Despite the heat, we're making good progress, tackling a number of stages
The walkway around the chimney:

Progress looks great, i didnt follow what is the trick with Parafilm? Why is it better than other solutions? The ArtistHobby set has no railings on the funnel Regarding the parafilm, I find it easyer and much faster than the masking tape. Also, as it has no glue on it, it can remain on the kit for very long periods without ruining the paint. I made a tutorial (in french) here : https://www.laroyale-modelisme.net/t318 ... navire-uniIf you want I can make a translation

Anyway, it's going to be complicated to modify it! Tha ArtistHobby sets are quite complete and easy to use, the PE parts are strong enough to be bend properly. Not so easy, as the hull is very tight and the deck has to be held firmly during the gluing process to prevent it from popping out of its space... mini overhang with gluing of 2 small railings and chimney grilles

Before work this morning, we're sticking on something to improve tamiya's hopelessly flat fronts

all this fits on a tamtam pot with a radius of about 1.5m, of course.
in total: 18 pieces of PE for 2 pieces of plastic

Let's move on to the top floor with the bridge
Before :

remove the glass, sand it down and HOP! install the PE
After:

Blank laid on the tower, it will only be glued afterwards, to make it easier to paint.

For those who are still hesitating, it took me between 15 and 20 minutes to do the 3 bridges... how long will it take on the masking tape?

We're still making slow progress, but we're making progress... We're also adding some parts from the Artist Hobby detailing set

Here's the deck, very pleasant engraving, but we're going to get rid of all that
The paravans have been removed too, replaced by 3d versions.

And the shadoks sanded and sanded... and when they weren't sanding, they slept dreaming that they were sanding...

To go faster, in addition to the "classic" files, you can use this remarkably practical little tool !

IJN Mogami Light Cruiser 1/700 Tamiya + add-ons |
|
|
I present to you today my build of the Mogami in its Light cruiser configuration. The kit is made by Tamiya, which means it's nice and I don't expect any major assembly problems. However, some details are missing and the flak parts are really too crude. You get the feeling that Japanese manufacturers have pooled their efforts on these clusters and that they're showing their age... So we're going to add some trinkets: the 2 Artist Hobby PE sets (the only ones for the ship in this configuration) A PE board for the lino deck battens, as on my 1/350 Maya, but this time at 1/700... yes I know, I'm a nut 127mm turrets in 3D : The 20mm triple : Back to work!
