Cheers...Well, fishing net these days is knotless and looks more like fishnet stocking material than scale net. I have a couple - nets that is. The crew figures you mention are Naval, with appropriate hats etc. The crews of the Rescue launches were RAF and dressed differently from what I've seen. If I really decide to do a dio I've got some left over 1/72nd blokes I can adapt anyway - On my income, the time it takes to make something is cheaper than buying anyway. Especially after postage gets added...

I'd say the weave was a bit tight, I tried thinning out some mossie net...it fell apart.

Very nice job, I've got one of these kits on the shelf that I need to dig into. For the scramble nets, I was considering using medical gauze, dyed with coffee and wetted with white glue for shape. Anybody tried this before?

Finished...at least until/if I put it into a diorama. Airfix came through with with a new set of in register decals and I spent some time - lots - making the scrambling nets, hard on the eyes, lots of titchy knots to tie. Hardly looks worth the effort now!

Yes to the hatch, as I said, putting it on open or closed will depend on whether I do a dio or not. The lifeboat needs straps, yes - forgot to mention that! Usually, when I think I'm done with a model, I leave it a week and then give it a close look over..and inevitably find a few things I'm not happy with.

Was there not a hatch on the bridge house ? And the dingy, what's holding that down ? This is a cracking fine job of a nice cheap model, much better then I could build and crew ?
The flag looks great, use a test piece and give it a little black wash to see what it looks like. Considering the amount of time you've spent building this project, you've done very well indeed. Well done :thumbs_up_1:

OK, here's where things stand at the mo. I made new stands for the twin Lewises and scratched some ammo boxes as the kit items were pretty anonymous. It remains to decide whether the bridge hatch should be opened or shut and attach the windshield which I've thinned down somewhat. So the Launch is pretty well finished and I'm still debating a diorama base for it.

Meanwhile I'm waiting for a fresh set of decals from Airfix, with a better registered roundel... I received flags from Cornwall, turns out they weren't decals but vinyl stickers, more entertainingly only supplied on the sheet right handed...out with the scalpel and I cut out the Union Jacks and roundels and stuck them onto some extremely thin copper shim painted something approaching RAF blue. Better than they were, but still...

Still a bit shiny, I see and those stays need tightening...there's always something, eh?

Great videos...alas that it was a post war model. Even better was the Norwegian crewed Dogboat! Those were mean looking boats. I think I've solved the flag problem - pic tomorrow. Only leaves sorting the scrambling nets...I've been trying all day to make actual scale nets - defeated...so far.

Funny you should say that... I had a rap on the knuckles from a friend the other day about the appalling ensign. I don't like it either and have ordered decals from Cornwall Model Boats to replace it! The ship will not be spoiled for ha'porth of tar. :smallsmile:

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, just noticed that flag. Could you possibly make your own (decal paper) or worse comes to the worse buy a 1-72. You're doing such a good job so far, it'll be a shame to knock the edges off by a flapping sheet of concrete, just my view and only trying to advise and help. :thumbs_up_1:

I like the yellow version you chose. It is indeed a nice contrast to all the grey warships. I noticed that you took the challenge of those aerials very well!

Nice! For some reason I wasn't thinking about painting, d-oh. I once had a precious roçç of drafting linen for sails etc. Lent it to a 'friend' to cut a couple of sails. Never got it back... it would have been brilliant for this, however... I have paper I have paint and I'll give it a go - though I ordered a decal sheet from Cornwall model boats...just as a back up y'understand.....

Well now, time for Artist fraser....

here is what I would do in that huge 1/72 scale of yours ...

I love paper for making flags...( good medium for painting on..!)

1) get 2 x small union jack decals ( 1/700 should do it- maybe 350...? )

2) get 2 RAF roundels decals in appropriate sizes ( ship decal sheet--left overs from your aircraft building)

3) apply decals to paper flag, seal with matt varnish and using watercolour paint the light blue--should give a pleasing translucence....

:big_grin: Not Jacks, the jack, the flag! the ensign. It's horribly big and printed on very thick paper. I think I know the figures you're talking about, but of course they're RN not RAF!

Although I have long forgot what and where they come from, Timmy C, will know about these fantastic 1-72 sailors (figures) for other parts have you tried Corwall Models ? They do a very good range in 1-72 and R/C. :big_grin:
