The progress drags on. I've finished attaching all the tiny fittings like guns, barrels and the masts. She's structurally complete...finally! Attachment:

Thanks PetrolGator! I wouldn't say fast. A more fitting term would be "desperate to finish this" After browsing and reviewing photos of Littorio on the net, I finally painted the sea base. Attachment:

The sea color is a mix of Grumbacher Thalo Blue and Tamiya's Field Blue, while the waves are Tamiya's Flat White. I'm actually quite proud of the results, considering this is my second attempt at making a sea base in 1/700. I still need to gloss up the water. The foam board warped up a bit today and I'm finding methods to remedy it. I also finished making the tiny Italian flag. All colors are handpainted. Attachment:

Thanks for the kind remarks guys! I was too focused on building Littorio I couldn't find the time to post photos of the build in progress. No matter, here are about 5 days worth of progress, including the plenty of long breaks I've accumulated within the build Here are the superstructure parts and one turret freshly spray-painted Attachment:
DSC01313.JPG [ 100.03 KiB | Viewed 933 times ]
Here the turrets and superstructure parts are dry-fitted. Like the main deck, I painted the superstructure deck by brush painting the entire deck with the deck color then painted the small details with a smaller brush. Attachment:
DSC01314.JPG [ 90.47 KiB | Viewed 933 times ]
The 15 in gun barrels, the secondary guns, the turrets and bases of the 3.5 in guns, a few boats and the life rafts have been attached to the superstructure. I'll add the gun barrels later in the build. I've learned a lot of history about Italian ships lately, thanks to the Calling all Vittorio Veneto class Fans thread. At first I painted the life rafts yellow orange, as indicated by the Trumpy color guide and some Italian ship builds I've seen, but after some research I found out that these were the same color as the hull during 1941, so I repainted them. Too bad, they gave the model a more colorful look, but the grey color looks fine, and I can sit back knowing that at least the colors of the model are correct Attachment:
DSC01322.JPG [ 107.52 KiB | Viewed 933 times ]
The boats were a challenge too. I almost went mad making a horde of these tiny boats, but after browsing the CVVCF thread, I found out that less than half the boats were actually carried on all ships of the class. What a relief. I drew the windows of the boats with a 0.3 drafting pen and handpainted the bridge windows with thinned flat black. Attachment:

DSC01330.JPG [ 101.16 KiB | Viewed 933 times ]
The masts, barrels and a few small parts I left out are finally attached. My cute but evil dog accidentally devoured one of the secondary guns I was able to save it, but I lost one life raft, oh well . I proceeded to the sea. I'm following a modified Jim Baumann water-making version for this build. The base is foam board with watercolor paper glued on top, then I molded the waves with modelling clay. Attachment:

Next comes the painting, a few PE and rigging and she is done! More soon! Nick

Nice build and watching with interest, me eyes would not be able to do this in 1/700, or did you use Decals.
What ever ,nice going.

1/700 Italian battleship Littorio, 1941 (Trumpeter) |
 |
|
I haven't touched a single model in months. College was getting the most out of my time, but now I can start fresh. I saw this kit in the LHS a few weeks ago. It was the only 1/700 ship left and it was darn cheap so I was tempted to get it. This ship is way off my interested timeframe of modern era ships, but let's just say, the red and white strips were 'hypnotizing' me As a stretch from my recent USS Oklahoma City build, I'm gonna chime in with all the fuss about the Littorio class. I'm gonna build it OOB, just for fun. with some spare PE in hand. I'm actually quite excited about this build, since this is my first Italian ship, and my first battleship in 1/700. Let the eye sores begin! Attachment:
DSC01311.JPG [ 75.47 KiB | Viewed 1077 times ]
The pics you see below are 3 days worth of work. Man, painting 1/700 is hard. Attachment:
DSC01298.JPG [ 82.69 KiB | Viewed 1077 times ]
Attachment:
DSC01299.JPG [ 102.4 KiB | Viewed 1077 times ]
Attachment:
DSC01300.JPG [ 104.83 KiB | Viewed 1077 times ]
The kit did include a small PE fret. I just wish they made a PE part for the catapult. Attachment:
DSC01303.JPG [ 111.59 KiB | Viewed 1077 times ]
The stripes are all handpainted. I couldn't trust the Trumpeter color guide so off I went to the Littorio thread in the Calling all Ship Fans forum for extra research about the correct scheme. It's not completely precise but it looks good anyway. I was actually scared of this part...I've never painted a battleship with such funny looking stripes Attachment:

Attachment:
DSC01305.JPG [ 95.24 KiB | Viewed 1077 times ]
The funnel had fragile PE gratings, a challenging task that gave me the most eye sores. Attachment:
DSC01307.JPG [ 78.05 KiB | Viewed 1077 times ]
I never thought 1/700 could have just as many parts as 1/350 even for a battleship this small...call myself ignorant of the 1/700 world haha. The superstructure had plenty of gaps. Yep, Trumpeter does it again so I filled them with white glue. Attachment:
