nice weathering. How did you do it? give us some tips :)

Thanks!
First i painted with lacquer color (Gunze flat brown), then I wet the surface with enamel thinner and painted the weathering effect with enamel flat black. Then with a dry brush I painted with Tamiya enamel flat earth.
The enamel thinner/paint not attack the lacquer, so if I exaggerate the effect, I can clean and reduce the weathering with the thinner.

Probably due to the angle of sunlight reflected off the metal plating.

Weathering. I painted the 1942 version to looks older and more dirty.

I have no idea of why this section looks painted in light color. (???)

Utterl;y fantastic! Even though I much prefer Aoshima's flight deck planking, I am unhappy with their metal plating effect for the rest of the flight deck. Can't win.

Very funny about the 25mm AA.

What a great project & comparison! Does anyone notice how overscale the Fujimi portholes/eyebrows are compared to Aoshima? OTOH, the Fujimi PE looks pretty good.

Ryuji, any comments on fit/assembly between the two?

Thanks for comments!

Both kits are good and well detailed. The plastic parts fit well but some photo etching, not.

Aoshima kit have less parts and is more easy and fast to build. Fujimi kit have a LOT of small parts - at least there are some extra parts for case of lost or damage.

For Fujimi kit I used Fine Molds AA gun set (the original part looks a bit out of scale)

... and for Aoshima kit I used the Fujimi part.

Both are marked as "1941 version" but Fujimi came with old tower (the top part of Aoshima I used Fujimi part)

So, I will build as 1938 and 1942 version.

Aoshima released the 1942 version few months after I bought this kit, but I didn´t want to buy another model just for 1 different part that I can build in scratch - the tower extension I builded with plastic sheet.

Not just the portholes, but all of the forecastle deck fittings as well - such disparity!

It is really great seeing the two kits being built at the same time like this.
