Topic review - Schnellboot (Revell 1/72 + Griffon Model Premium Set)

That's an excellent build Sandro and the diorama idea is a great way to display your Schnellboot.

If you are still intending to have a diver in the diorama, I can recommend "Deep Sea Divers" originally by Elheim but now produced by TQD Castings: http://www.cpmodelsminiatures.co.uk/TQD ... 20SETS.htm

They are white metal and, in my opinion, are better detailed and more animated than the CMK resin divers.

Looking forward to seeing the finished diorama.

Cheers

David

Hello veliko pile

I like your first first diorama project (that with a crane) but you are the "captain" on your project
at the beginning of the output of the ........ I "committed" a little diorama (a corner of Cherbourg harbor), I do not have your talent, but even here a view

Image

good luck and I follow with interest
cheers

I know, this will lack vertical structures, I had an idea of adding some lamps but I think it's not very logic.

This should be more Schnellboot and less dock

Hmnnn

all good...

I actually rather liked the idea of a SMALL crane-loading stuff -similar to my image--

it gives vertical interest and something for the crew to do on the aft deck...

Watching!

( here if its any interest is my harbour dio in 1/700 )

Hey Jim, thanks for the ideas.

Most of the people said that the dock was too wide and big, and that it would steal the attention from the Schnellboot. So I've made it smaller and get rid of the crane. (BTW that crane was downloaded from the internet as a 3D object, it's a English crane indeed, I didn't find any other, so I've put that).

I've worked out the position of the truck, I like the guy fishing there. Also I'd like to put a diver going to inspect the Boot rudder and propellers. On the 2nd picture you can see also a cat, maybe put there 1 or 2 guys playing with it.

I am not an expert in these matters-- but I think crates and barrels, coils of rope/ hawser and fuel drums etc would be appropriate, perhaps a rowing dinghy on shore( -maybe upside down bieng painted...?

-- a bicycle or two...

My bigger initial reaction is that crane looks wrong...

a) it appears to of an english design /construction
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnieston_Crane

b) too large a design in relation to the boat
================================================

This looks more like a continental type of crane--and would adequate for loading torpedo boat ..

Image

or if you do want a bigger crane something like this

here is a kit of a 1/72 harbour crane--resin and PE (!)

( I tappped into Google )

1/72 deutscher hafen kran

http://www.1001modellbau.de/zubehor-fur-harz-dioramen-dekor-elemente-usw/6812-2000-kg-hafen-kran-harz-jagdhaus-mit-geatzten-rahmenarbeit-1-72-cmk-maritime-line-diorama-80286.html

here is another...

if you wanted to scratchbuild your crane...

I tapped into Google images

alter deutscher hafen kran

( old german harbour crane ) and was rewarded with a number of images of ]more likely type of crane

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ww2+german+dockside+crane&safe=active&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=BsdEUtDfIcSKswa5-oEw&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1067&bih=718&dpr=1.2#q=alter+deutscher+hafen+kran&safe=active&tbm=isch&imgdii=_

alos simply

( german harbour crane bought up another set of images...

And now I need your help, here's two pics of a 3D model of the composition for the schnellboot.

Any idea how to make it better, what to add, what to get rid of?

I'd like the schnellboot to be moored near a wooden pontoon, and also I like the idea of a crane loading a mine or maybe a torpedo onboard, on land there should be a cargo truck (Opel Blitz or some other) unloading crates and supply.

So that's what I'd like to be on the diorama, do you have any suggestions?

Thanks, Sandro

After a long time, a friend of mine pushed me to finish this build. There will be some changes , the boat will be docked with figures , a cargo truck unloading some supplies and a crane loading a torpedo.

So firstly if anyone have some blueprints for a crane that was used in harbors during WWII , I would appreciate if you could send me a PM, so I can scratch build it.

Secondly, I've mixed the "Schnellbootweiss" color, adding Gunze H308 to Gunze H316 and receiving a very light gray color, what do you think? Is it ok?

Thanks, I'm from the town that invented self propelled torpedo's, so I guess I have to do it well.

I hope I get the color right, somewhere on the internet I found a forum thread that said that they used bronze for the head, fins and propellers but only during the early war. Later they started to produce the torpedo's all in steel.
