Fellow Modelers, I wanted to share my good fortune with you. An article on building my 1/72 Moebius U.S.S. Skipjack is in the November 2016 issue of Fine Scale Modeler. They did a good with it and I am always happy to get a chance to work with this magazine. Thanks Phillip1

David,
Very nice and thanks for posting them. It is even more impressive since they are "working models". I have seen photos of your model builds from at least a dozen published articles and professional displays over the past couple of decades. The work you have done has brought me great joy and envy at the same time.
Thanks
Phillip1

Ahahahaha, how droll. Nice builds, at any rate, though personally I do think the "algae line" is a bit too pronounced and consistent. Dunno how to fix that, though...

David - Yeah, right. I'll look for the Model T low rider (with "Cucaracha" horn) with the Krylon stickers holding the bodywork together - and a low tide algae line - if it hasn't been towed away. John

ModelMonkey-Thanks for the compliment.
David-I am honored by your compliments. They mean a lot coming from a builder of your talents and abilities. It was your 1/96 Skipjack that inspired me to build this model in the first place. Please post photos of your build for everyone to see because YOU DA MAN!
Thanks

Just found this site and pounced on your excellent WIP, Phillip.
Would you believe I'm just finishing up my first assembly of a production kit?!.... Better late than never.

Nice, clean looking build. I like to see vessels in a state that won't see their CO's worrying about their next fitrep.

Re: Progress Build of 1/72 U.S.S. Skipjack Submarine (SSN585 |
 |

Fellow Modelers,
My U.S.S. Skipjack is finished! This is a large model, but it did not have a lot of parts, which kept the building time down. It took me about 100 hours to complete. The modifications and after-market add-ons were kept to a minimum, so this build is close to being “straight out of the box”. The kit fit together very well and had almost no warping. The scribed panel lines are a little soft and deep, but they do not detract from the finished display. Creating an attractive paint finish is the key to this model being able to turn heads. For anyone who is interested in modern submarines (and has the shelf space) I highly recommend this kit. Thanks for the interest and following along. I will start another thread, where more photos of the finished model will be posted.
