Thanks Dan. Well, we're almost a year later, isn't it  . My fourth child has been born last Friday, april 7th. A babygirl...so, my girl being born on the day Yamato sank...that means...building time Since I didn't complete the assembly of the 15.5m rangefinder yet, I thought it was a good starting point. I just needed to add the range of antennae on top. However, I did find out that I had glued the aft Hoiban low angle director in place (the small plastic cylinder on top). I was quite fed up and angry at myself. So with a lot of patience, a sharp knife and some dread I tried to remove the wrong Hoiban unit. Luckily I managed to do that with little damage. I glued the correct one in place, added the railings again, and after that I could do the antenna assemble. It scared me a bit, but the assembly was easier than I feared. So finally this sub assembly is finished ^^   And as always, I bring in my giant pink lighter  Hopefully I manage to do a next update a tad faster now  Thanks Dan.

ModelMonkey and SG, thanks for comments chaps, great to read the effort is appreciated ^^ I've been working on and off on the 15.5M rangefinder and Type 21 radar array.    It was less scary to assemble than I initially would have thought. Though in comparison to a well known every day object it makes you wonder why we modellers are so bonkers  Next update might take a while again (hopefully not 4 years lol, a lot of tiny fiddly bits to be added to the superstructure)

Well, after all these years: Brett, Marijn and Dan: thanks for the great comments Wowzee, 5 years already since last update. Well, luckily I started to feel the love for Yamato again. And although it's very hot at the moment, my hobbyrooms' temperatures are ok, so a bit of glueing never hurts. I've been working on the funnel, superstructure and pagoda style tower on and off. The funnel is nearing completion. One annoying thing is that one small part on the exhaust part of the funnel got eaten by the carpet monster. Not so funny but I'll try to find a way. Probably I'm going to cut a piece of paper in the right shape and harden it by soaking it in ca glue. We'll see. Needless to say that a lot of swearing was involved   The superstructure has been detailed as well, and I sprayed a thin layer of grey primer to check for errors. A large part of the tower has been detailed as well. The ladder/stairs are a combination of kit parts and Pontos parts. The Pontos ladders look so much better but I folded some the wrong way around so I had to resort to the Tamiya pieces.   The aft 10M rangefinder and Hoiban low angle director have been detailed with photo etch as well. Some of the supports weren't moulded on so I had to scratchbuild them with some sheet styren (the small triangular white parts)  Next up: the 15.5M rangefinder ^^ Well, after all these years: Brett, Marijn and Dan: thanks for the great comments :big_grin:

That looks great Wouter! I like the varied and asymmetric position you chose for the guns (gives life to the model), and the paintwork is going in the right direction! Nice color variation in the airbrushing already, and to me the filter is nicely visible, especially on the gun barrels. This will be a spectacular moel when finished!
