Topic review - Maritime Commission C-1A hull

Thanks Tom .For the finial priming I use a polyester primer that takes a hardener . The plug needs to be sanded down to 1000 grit then polished and the polyester primer works best for that .

My APA project is 1:120, a little larger ship LOA, but a similar overall size, at a model length of 45.5". These ships had endless amounts of deck equipment for handling their endless variations in tasks. My Dad served on an ARL and they sometimes served PT boats via large capacity side boom, hoisting the boats onto a barge alongside. They also served as mother hens for the Brown Water Navy during Vietnam.

Looking forward to your progress!

Tom

Hello Tom
Yes it is in 1/96 scale . They were 412'3" OA which makes a hull 51.548 "
Thanks for your comments .

Looks like a very nice beginning! What scale will this be, looks like 1:100 or larger?

Cheers: Tom

The plug is now ready for the two part gray primer . I start with the black spray can primer first to show any imperfections because it's cheaper than the poly primer .

More on C1-A plug .65 C1-A hulls were made . 46 by Pennsylvania Ship Yards , Beaumont TX ,19 made by Pusey and Jones , Wilmington Delaware . Four were used by the Navy during WWII .
AE-10 Sangay launched as Cape Sable ; munitions and mines .Named after a volcanic peak in the Andes Mountains . Fitting name for what she carried if hit !
AGP-12 Acontius launched as Cape Carthage ; PT Boat Tender
AGP-13 Cyrene launched as Cape Farewell ; PT Boat Tender
AK-22 Fomalhaut launched as Cape Lookout
All had " Cape Names " when launched and had diesel engines and were " Shelter Deck " type hulls .
