Such a beautiful little gem! The paintjob of thin, contrasting lines along the hull sharpens the appearance to a great extent. With the passengers and the seascape it is very atmospheric too. Congrats on creating another masterpiece! And yes, what's next?

The wake article is a bit tongue in cheek, but you're not the first person to worry about paddle wheel wakes! We have surprisingly little information on this subject in our archives, most of of it ancient except this relatively new paper. Of course, nothing beats a few aerial pics and few ships have been so well captured in this regards as the images you've shown here. This vessel creates a wonderfully narrow diverging wave pattern; and then these odd paddle wheels..
And indeed, she's coming along very well!

I have nothing sensible to add to the interesting wake/photography discussion, but I can endorse this statement: SG1 wrote: Masterpiece (once again, oh yeah)! It is great to see her coming together Jim!

It was not really possible to pan with the large view cameras of the time (usually 8x10). I have a 4x5 view camera and I would never pan with it! The latitude of the emulsions of the time were not great and foam would probably burn out. Another possibility is that a stationary ship had a "wake" retouched in somewhat crudely by painting the white area on to the emulsion with an opaque retouching material.

Hello gentlemen; @ Iceman-- a most useful illustration.... scaling the image down to the actual size of the model it would be tricky to emulate in miniature-; though I agree it is probably correct...-- ** see @ wefalck below.... @ EJ Foeth.... I downloaded the article, and read all the words between the pictures - twice... now my head aches.... @ wefalck I think you may be onto something with the slower shutter-speed of large format cameras of the era certainly the amount of white thrash disturbed water in many of the old images indeed appears slightly blurred ==> anyhow- I like that reasoning .... for my " artists impression " of the water

That's an interesting article, EJFoeth, thanks!
Could it be that that the LORNA DOONE images were shot with lower shutter speed and that, therefore, the foam patterns overlap. Also it appears, that there is a certain 'burn-out' (overexposure) of the white foam.
And, as always: impressive modelling at this scale!
