Rob--

I can't speak for the most recent new toolings compared with the 1994-99ish kits--they're ALL "new" by my 30-odd-years reckoning :lol_1: , so I'm not the guy you want to ask.

The "old" I was referring to, were kits probably made within the first six or seven years of the consortium's big influx to US hobby shops. I was in HS 1972-74. It's been a long time, but I do recall thinking this was no way to make a model kit--it was a carrier and a destroyer I bought.

Thanks RNfan Dan
For the kind words about my website. Much appreciated.

One of the fine things of all the IJN models, is the variety of ships and weapons. The 4 great makers of model ships has nearly produced all of the entire IJN to date, also Pit Road/skyWave had filled the gap and make high quality plastic kit.

Now Aoshima has produced new moulds of BB as Nagato/Mutsu and lately Fuso/Yamashiro just to mentions a few.

Hasegawa has the BB Hyuga/Ise as one of the best in their inventory - Now we can only hope that Hasegawa will remake the 4 BB kongo-class
- they are in need to do so, if the modellers don't have to scratch build 2/3 parts of the ship-class.

And maybe the PE firm of Lion Roar will go further with their range of PE-set of CV decks -they have just released the deck of BB/CV of ISE/Hyuga.
The IJN model hobby is up in high gear again.

Lars

That is some website you have, Lars! I am in the process of acquiring my own IJN 1:700 kit collection, and of course many of the models I have purchased are re-tooled and/or new releases.

I did not know of your fine collection and build descriptions before I started to buy the various models I will construct, myself. 1:700 kit building is almost entirely new to me (I am a scratchbuilder, not a kit-assembler), but I did have a few IJN ships in the 1970's.

The kits now being produced are beautifully molded, and I am looking forward to building them. I am happy to see many of my choices are the same that you have featured, so I guess my research has been correct!

I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate what you have done (and continue to do) and, although my collection will be limited to about 1 ship of each class, I would like to make the most of each kit I have acquired. Your site will provide many good tips and techniques.

Thank you for posting your link!

Hi Jason M :wave_1:

I know how frustrating it can be when the book is out of stock !
When I build my IJN ISE I search the net of pictures and also Book review on Gakken Ise book. small scale pictures, but better than none

Gakken has made "The IJN Battle ship perfect guide" volume GAKKEN N° 03411
Here are pictures of all the BB models.

I hope it will be a help
