Marines Éditions, and Cruisers with way too many funnels.... |
 |
|
Sure Ted, it would be nice to think that one day Marines Éditions would oblige with another delightful title. The problem is; they publish possibly the best books of their kind, but they have no interest in marketing or selling their lovely products.....
Best wishes, Terry (who is lucky enough to be able to read French and buys every Marines Éditions title that he can).

The book was not published. In 2003 I had been also misled by other on line book store. After 4 months waiting I concacted "publisher"and I was informed the book was not published and publisher didn't intend to publish it in any possible to foresigh time. Pity!

Thanks, Terry, I thought as much. I heartily agree about the French armoured cruisers! Perhaps Marines Editions will publish a volume or two on them someday...
Best, Ted

No, sadly this book was never published; mostly due to the untimely death of one of the authors (David Topliss). I understand that 2 parts of the text were edited/serialised in Warship 2000-2001 & 2001-2002 by the co-author Chris Ware, from the Orlando class up to the Monmouth/Suffolk classes. I am not aware that the series has continued, which would be a shame if true. I was quite looking forward to the Minotaur class......
Now, what we need is a similar history of the wonderfully outlandish French equivalents, especially the 6-funnelled Ernest Renan & Waldeck-Rousseau classes.............
Regards, Terry.

Hi Ted! I vaguely remember asking this before the hacking incident. I can't remember who answered the question, but I think the answer was, no it hasn't. Pity. That's a book I would really have wanted. Mike.

Was book on "First Class Cruisers" ever published? |
 |
|
Hello, Was this book ever published in 1998, or later? Or, did it instead become a series of articles by the same author in Warship? I haven't seen copies for sale anywhere, although Amazon.co.uk claims to be able to get it in a few weeks. Quote: Topliss, David & Ware, Chris: Conway's Ship Types: First Class Cruisers. Conway Maritime Press, London, 1998. sq8vo, 128 pp, ill. ISBN 0 85177 710 4. Price: GBP 25,00. To be published in February 1998 Thanks! Ted
