PeterG,
I've sent you a PM regarding m.v. Ramb

PetrOs,
Do you have anything on 'Shanghai Maru' or her sister ship 'Nagasaki Maru' built by Wm Denny for NYK and launched in August 1922 and March 22 respectively? It may be a little early for your 'yearbooks' but any info most welcome.

Thanks

Jim S

If you can lay your hands on Shipbuilding Cyclopedia, published in 1920, it has loads of merchant ship plans, including a lot of the US War Emergency ships from WW1.

So far, I dont have the RAMB's plans. Which year was she constructed? It could well be reflected in the WRH magazines on that or following years...

Drop me your email per PM, I would select a few plans for european motorships with layout plans, and send them to you.

Cheers
Petr

I'm to new a user to be allowed PMs.

The RAMB I thru IV were built in 1937 and 1938 in Italy for the Italian govt's bannana monoply company. Trade was from Italian colonies to Italy.

Being a merchant navy fan, I found some interesting options on getting the plans, drawings, etc from the old ships, using inter-library loans across Germany university libraries. I have got a number of books and magazine yearbooks recently, and would like to present them, so you know what to expect, and would also list the useful plans in followups. I would be scanning the plans for my private use.

Trying to get some information motor ship construction for pre-WWII motor ships. Specifically looking for info on the RAMB II, an Italian bananna ship which later became Tito's (of Yugoslavia) yacht.

Best case would be engine room layout or general layout of the RAMB, but barring that:

In general, would European built motor ships of the interwar era have a void under the engine room? or tankage? or would the engine room be directly on the hull? Or did it vary?

Peter

I understand. The reason why I ask is that she's still around: only these days she is a stationary hulk (well-maintained) housing the student's sailing club that I was a member of in my college days. Spent many a night at the bar in that little ship.
