thank you for the kind comment! :wave_1:

regarding the blocks: It was a presentation choice. To make accurate keel blocks will mean that they will barely be seen since they should be very small. Not to mention that you'll need several hundreds of them. In a drydock diorama yes. Now that you mention it, they do look a bit awkward. Next time maybe a bit thinner and not so many shapes in them.

about the grey underwater hull. According to this document: https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/page ... ng-colours the order to the fleet to change to grey where available was given in August of 1916. (Thanks again to Sovereign Hobbies for making these documents available) My model is supposed to represent Warspite before the battle of Jutland. The grey colour would have looked very nice though...

I have this kit in the stash and I really like your build. Especially nice to see detail on the boats, so important on these early ships where they still have an eye catching role, before they were relegated to small rafts later on. Lovely detail all around, 3D certainly helped! I will keep this model as a reference for myself in future. Well done! :thumbs_up_1:

I do have few questions -1) keel blocks seem a 3D print, but why in pyramid shape? 2) hull is red, was it red or grey did you investigate this much with Jamie and team?

@George: I have been using your build threads as reference to what it should look. Your work on the deck fittings and details motivated me to try better. I really appreciate a comment from one of the Queen Elizabeth class experts!

@Martin: It came out a little too dark, and the deck and boats too bright. I still have to improve the colour matching/blending technique so it is not so contrasting in future ship models. It is the darkest colour I have used in a ship. At the end I like how it looks.

I add another picture.

Very nicely done. The ships boats especially pop against the darker paint of the ship.

Hi Erick!

What an absolute gem of a model!
Wonderful details everywhere, not just from the very respectable Artist Hobby set, but the ones you created by 3D printing!
There's so much to behold and the dark colour scheme makes the ship look grim and menacing.

Thanks for sharing pics of this masterpiece!

Hello everyone!

Its been a while since I posted something. I have been a bit busy with other things but recently I had some time to take photos of my latest model. The HMS Warspite in around May 1916. This is the Trumpeter kit with the Artist Hobby upgrade set. I added some detail to the hull by masking and sanding spray-on primer. I experimented a lot with 3D printing to make custom parts, like the bollards, superstructure decks, the 6in guns with the collar and casemates, capstans, skylights, ventilators, searchlights and platforms, and the boats. All except the boats are very simple shapes, so it was not so hard to draw/design. It is the first time I try something like that and I think it came out OK. The rigging was done using Modelkasten metal wire, elastic thread from Uschi vdR, and stretched sprue from Airfix black sprues. Paint was from Sovereign Hobbies since they have done all the research of the most probable colour during the Battle of Jutland. Thanks for that. This time I dared take more close up photos so the small parts can be seen and because the paint came out right, very fine grained. Some oil washes were applied, but the scheme is so dark, its barely noticeable.

As always, comments and critique very welcomed!
