Thank you pascalemod and maxim for the nice comments! I really appreciate it. Yes Lars, I was really getting obsessed with those guns. I tried doing them scratch, but ended up using the Combrig ones from another kit.

The Dingyuan model is really impressive! Especially, the multi-barrel Gatling guns!

This is very beautiful result and now I can see how it builds with that lower hull which I got from you. So a fantastic effort! I will be doing a ship in its full rig instead or in late config with open turrets to show off the guns, considering you have nailed this particular version brilliantly. Congrats on stealing the show as well!

very good images, model really is very sharp! no wonder she won best ship @ Telford this year !!! Thank you for the foot-rope comment, -- you have done a most excellent job on the footropes and interpreted my method perfectly!! The biggest problem I ever have with footropes in 1/700 is getting them consistent when there are LOTS of them especially on a square rigged vessel this was my ultimate effort ====> so far... ( 6 masted Preussen ....-here we come..!.) http://www.modelwarships.com/reviews/sh ... ndex_2.htm

1/700 Dingyuan / Ting Yuen / 定遠 Complete |

Hello everyone, well, long time no post. I am sorry I could not post more pictures of the progress of this model. I had a very bad hard drive crash and lost a lot of photos, including some of the ones of the progress... I learned my lesson and will keep better backup systems in place. Also the year has been a bit busy, I know, excuses. This model represents the Dingyuan/Ting Yuen/定遠 of the Beiyang Fleet, Imperial Chinese Navy, sometime around the late 1880's. I used the S-Model kit as a base. The hull below waterline is scratchbuilt, the masts are made with brass tubing and rod. The screws were cut out of paper from templates from Dr. Jang's plans. The rigging is a combination of metal wire, elastic thread and stretched sprue based also from Dr. Jang's plans and the book "The Chinese Steam Navy 1862-1945" by Richard Wright. The ratlines are cut out from the Oceanspirit ratlines kit, as they are significantly thinner that the included PE ones. The most difficult part for me was making the footropes with stretched sprue, but I had to try Jim Baumann's technique. They look a lot thinner than the included PE parts. Now to look into my stash to see what I build next! Comments and critique very welcome! Attachment:
