I have seen three Roman ships:
Rome Warship (1) Rome Warship (2) Rome Trireme
but especially the first two look not very Roman, more Hollywood-like.
Which Greek ships are announced?

Those 1/700 models are really cool! Love the Turtle. Thanks for the link. I had not heard of Artist hobby before.
I've done eBay links on various forums as "Proof of Life" for pictures of kits or parts. I had not listed links with the intent of advertising.

Gentlemen, for your consideration: http://artisthobby.net/en/product_list2.asp?class=14Also, Ebay is showing some Roman and Greek stuff by the same company. Is there a rule against ebay links for MW? I can't remember.

Looks like we can add a few Plastic Viking warships to the list if we can call then Ancient. I listed these in order of scale. The primary manufacturer name is followed by the names of other manufactures who re-released/Re-boxed or copied the kit. Viking Ghost Ship 1/40? Revell. ( I only saw the box) Likely the same as the Revell Viking Ship.
Viking Ship 1/50 Revell (Great model. Seems accurate to the Museum ships)
Viking Drakkar Oseberg 1/60 Heller
Viking Leif Eriksson + Reine Mathhilde anniversary edition 1/60 Heller
Guillaume Le Conquerant 1/60 Heller ( Supposed to be a ship of William the Conqueror but looks like Viking)
Viking Reine Mathhilde 1/60 Heller
Viking Ship 1/60 BUM (copy of Heller?) I have only seen the box art
Viking Ship 1/64 Aurora, Atlantis, Smer, Modelist. ( Original OEM may be Merit)
Viking Gokstad 1/72 Emhar (Best of the bunch)
Viking Ship 1/90 (Closer to 1/144) IMAI, ERTL, Academy. 6.75" long
Viking Drakkar Oseberg 1/180 Heller (also probably Smer, Mistercraft) about 5" long
Viking Ship 1/250? Lindberg ( also released as the "Mother of Pearl" Viking Ship)
Viking ship 1/240-1/400 Glencoe ( ITC) 3.5"long
Note: The Lindberg and Glencoe/ITC kits could be the same. I have both but I did not break the Lindberg factory seal yet.
I will gladly edit the list and add/correct appropriate details to each entry from any new posts regarding Corrections,Quality, and availability. Please add pictures if you built'em!
Thanks, And Happy New Year to all you forum members. Nino.

Aurora
Bireme - ?Scale? - no info

Bireme Imperator - 1/72 - excellent kit with good detail apparently well researched; hull considerably too short, though Bireme Imperator - 1/225 - no info
Pyro
Roman Merchant Ship - no scale given, perhaps about 1/200 - smallish Pyro kit with some toylike features; still fairly good representation of a Roman corbita
Zvezda
Greek Trireme - 1/72 - well-engineered kit, but very inaccurate; probably rather 1/100 Roman Trireme - 1/72 - basically the same as the Greek Trireme Roman Imperial Trireme - 1/72 - basically the same as the Greek Trireme Carthaginian Warship - 1/72 - basically the same as the Greek Trireme

Jorit I had posted some things over at FSM relating to Roman Warships and I remembered this post and thought I would add to it as you suggested. So, if you want to try your hand at a plastic Roman Warship the following kits may be available: Academy 1/250 (actually 1/72ish) (IMAI mold 13.3" long) Academy 1/72 (IMAI mold 13.3" long) Same as above.
Aoshima no scale listed (1/144 to 1/250) (IMAI mold 6 ¾” long)
Aurora 1/80 Roman Bireme 11 1/4" long
B.U.M 1/72 (Barcelona Universal Models) ) (see "Edit" below)
ERTL 1/45 (actually 1/72ish) ( IMAI mold 13.3" long )
ERTL 1/90 ( possibly 1/144 to 1/250) (IMAI mold) 6 ¾" long
Heller 1/75
Heller 1/225 7.4” long
IMAI no scale listed 1/72ish 13.3” long
IMAI no scale listed ( 1/144 to 1/250 suggested) 6 ¾ “ long
Minicraft 1/72ish (IMAI mold 13.3” long)
Modelist 1/72ish (copy of IMAI.)
Zvezda 1/72 (Carthaginian , Greek, Roman) Nino. Edit: The BUM (Barcelona Universal Models) version I had believed to be an Aurora copy but box art could depict an IMAI mold. I am hoping to see the parts someday and will update this post accordingly. Note also that IMAI made a Greek Warship in 1/72 and 1/250ish which was also sold by ERTL, Academy, and Aoshima.

Thanks for that link, hadn't seen those before. I'm still in a quandary whether to crew it or have it empty. I've already got six boxes of these ... http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/review.aspx?id=288, although the Shapeways ones might be better (easier material to clean up), although I'd need to remove their ankle fetters, however I'd need 170 of them which would get expensive ...! The hull has gone together well (superglued butt joints), but because of the way I cut the hull sections, the joins aren't all in the same place. I'll get some more pictures today. Regards, Max

Re: Calling all ancient warships fans |

Apologies for bringing this thread back to life, let me know if I should go elsewhere, please. I am in the middle of creating a Greek Trireme using two Zvezda kits. As noted by previous posters the kit isn't accurate for what it is purported to be, so I did some research and extrapolation using Conway's The Age of the Galley, Welsh's Building the Trireme, Morrison's and Wilsons' Greek and Roman Oared Warships 399-30 B.C. and some information from the Trireme Trust website.
I came to 2 conclusions: 1) As kitted the Zvezda Greek Trireme would be well on its way to being a Trihemiola, and would only need a bit of work; 2) With some (a lot of) work, one could create the basis of a "proper" Trireme from the Zvezda Greek Trireme by using two hulls.
What I've done is create a 1/72 scale plan using the Coates outlines from the Trireme Trust website and various books, and then cut up two Zvezda hulls to give me the basic hull. I've attached some pictures ... let me know if anyone is interested and I'll add some more.
