@Strategos, yes it's her. I only wish she didn't sink...she would have become a nice hotel by now! The reason I'm painting this scene is for its very colourful atmosphere...the photo itself actually look like a painting! @Phil, thanks for your kind words! Very much appreciated! Hopefully that time will come! An update on the painting. The bridge details start to appear, as are the rocks and waves: Aop

Hi Aop & Aur, Amazing! You are both so talented! Drawings/paintings, piano and now ship models. Once you get the basics down and with a little experience you will be turning out Master builds! Hope you both have a wonderful New Years. Regards, Phil

Looks like the famous picture of the SS America wrecked on Feurteventura Island from a few years back. No doubt of extra interest to you because it was meant to go to Phuket. Too bad it it didn't make it. Here she is freshly wrecked in 1995: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/55/American_Star_M%C3%A4rz_1995.jpgGreat work as usual!

Here is the new painting. It took much longer than espected as I devoted nearly all of my time to piano. The proposed battleship Sovetsky Soyuz Pr.23 At first it was a drawing, but then I decided to add colours. In the end it turned out like this: Still not finished, though... Aop

Thanks for the once again too kind words! @Marijn, your sculptures are extremely outstanding! I have seen those two pics while searching "Marijn Van Gils"! I really like the Zappa! one! The idea is very interesting and fun! We will try to post more paintings soon. 21st September, which is 3 days from now, is our 15th birthday anniversary! Maybe now that we're one year older, we'll be able to complete at least a model! Aop

Wow, you're incredibly talented musicians! As for models, I have included music in two pieces in the past: 'Band practice break'. I just felt like sculpting my own bass guitar (at the time, I have sold it since), and put it in a setting every pop-rock musician would be very familiar with. The 1 eurocent is obviously only to indicate the scale (1/35). 'Zappa!' One of my heroes, in full action (inspired by the painting 'Nu descendant un espalier' by Duchamp) (1:35): These were a lot of fun indeed! Ok, now back to ships… Marijn

Thanks all for the kind words! Very appreciated! marijn van gils wrote: Great artwork!!! Please do post a youtube link to the concert! I'm a bit in the same boat as you (but pop music), as I won't be doing much modelling over the next few weeks as I have to study a fair amount of new songs for upcoming concerts… I don't think piano's look like ships, but bass guitars look even less like ships… Marijn, thanks a lot for the compliment! Nice that you also like music! So your instrument is bass guitar, right? But shh!, piano must look like ships, otherwise moderators will notice! Well, the casing does resemble ship sterns. Also another very interesting subject for us to create a scale model...1/350 or 1/700 scale piano might be too small, though! A 1/1 model sits here at our home, so we're looking for smaller ones.. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to record the performances that day, plus the concert was very small. There were just about 15 people attending (5 performing, including us) and it was held for a small birthday celebration. We performed bigger programmes in another concert a month ago, organised specifically for the two of us, so if you and others would like to hear, these are the links: Me, playing Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B-uwnT9It4sAur, playing Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.1: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gbV-6sGPgOwThe accompanist playing the orchestra part is our piano teacher. Now back to ships (I hope!) Thanks! Aop & Aur

Thank you very much gentlemen! We really appreciate the (too) kind words and are very happy that you like the paintings! There's still a very long way for us to go on these roads, so keep practising! I am going to post another painting of the proposed Soviet Pr.23 class Sovetskaya Ukraina battleship. It is nearly done now. While my brother is working on a Swedish Tre Kronor class painting. Will show them when they are finished. Currently, we do not have much time for both art and modelling; much of it is spent practising the piano. Tomorrow we are going to perform some piano pieces at a small house concert. If you are interested, we could post YouTube links of our performances for some of you classical music fans to listen to! (Starting to get off-topic...but the pianos do look like ships, don't they? ) Thanks for looking! Aop
