Hi All,

I have managed ti make some progress at last, heading towards the TF 72 regatta on 25th November !

The missile gantries are now fully attached to the forward deckhouse and the starboard launchers are now attached.

Foremast has been repaired and is actually fitted for a rotating top plate :thumbs_up_1:

Internal illumination is fitted and the nav lights are operational.

Next step is to complete the port side launchers and to finish the fordeck painting beneath the missile gantries and to finish installing the bridge deck and foremast. Still a long way to go, but she will be recognisable at the regatta as a Slava!

Enjoy the pics.

Andrew

That's a bummer, but you'll have the experience from the first time to make it better and maybe a bit faster.

Nice project as a whole too...

I went back to assess the damage, and it is not as bad as I had thought.

I will need to re make most of the fore mast. But, If I am honest with myself, I was never really happy with it as it was. The superstructure is not too bad and it seems to have broken into logical pieces. I can now re paint the modules, finalise the glazing and re assemble. So all in all, not too bad.

Will do a repair assessment after I have cooled down :Oops_1:

After a second Sunday in a row in the shed :woo_hoo:

Centre superstructure is ready for the tower - Awful print of the base perimeter is there just to test the fit. Fitted first time, very happy about that. The CIWS deck is now secured to the lower supporting structure. The CIWS and Drum Tilt are just placed for now. Beginning to make some decent progress now.

Enjoy

Hi All,

A Little more work done Varyag. The base of the main, or aft, tower is coming along now. The Drum Tilt radar platforms - grey pieces forward, were 3D printed, as were the CIWS platform support structures. The main superstructure blocks are in place, ready for the radar tower its self. I intend to print the radar tower, probably in two pieces.

Enjoy :wave_1: :wave_1:

(please excuse the eraser on the CIWS deck, need it there as a counter balance until everything is secured. )

Hi All,

Started moving on to the superstructure directly aft of the foremast. Below you will see the small deckhouse that is located directly aft of the foremast. I'm not quite sure, but I believe that this deck house contains a number of intake fans as there are large intake vents on all three exposed sides. I have recently seen a photo that shows a wooden decktread on top of the deckhouse, hence the plank effect that is visible. Excuse the over extrusion, I will fix that in the final version.

The photos show how you can get a really "nice" fit for parts that you want to insert, usung a 3D printer. (please excuse the black paint smudges too, decided I will not use a black background behind the grills in the final version.

Well, continuing with the 3D printing inspiration from a fellow TF 72 member, I have drawn and printed the upper foremast and "top plate" radar mast.

It took me a while, as the base had to be hand fitted and took a number of prototpypes to get the fit just right to the existing mast. When you draw and make things digitally you do see the "previous errors of your ways  "

The parts look a bit "stripy" in this photo, but they do clean up rather nicely, and without too much work. I am currently using HIPS, but pretty soon will experiment with some ABS.

The aim is to have the radar rotate, but I have to create a plan and then make some mods to the internals of the foremast.
