Hi Ed,
Thank you for the kind words ! However, I don’t have that model anymore- I made it for a longtime friend that sailed on her in the 80’s (guessing you may know him… W Giddens???)
Best regards
Brad

Hello,

First Time poster and long time interest in models.

I served aboard The USS Julius A Furer from 1976 to 1979.

I would be interested in knowing if you would consider selling this wonderful example of my ship. I run the FB page for the ship and also organize some of our ships reunion.

Thanks in advance

Oh this is going to be good! Always loved these little FFGs and this one is looking great so far. Those fittings are phenominal. If you are in need of photos I'd suggest rooting around over on these two sites:

Search for "FFG-1" with the quotes (sub in the other ships as well) and you'll find some high-res shots of her class. They only have one shot of FFG-6 for some reason but its from 1984 so it should prove helpful.

Hope that helps a bit,

You might try this....Type into Google "We went to see the (ship name) while on vacation."
Go to image results.

I got lots of excellent up close on deck photos that way.

Hello Guys,

well, the hull made it back from the paint booth- started placing some of the smaller fittings:

and did some more work on the stack and mast-

Hello all...

some more progress, been pretty slow though. My wife has painted the haze grey, and deck colors- and some of the fittings:

and I have been busy soldering up the mast;

and I got a nice shipment from Darren at the resin shipyard the other day (really really nice- if you need a set of decals Darrens the guy):
Image

Also, Ive been placing fittings, hatches and stuff- Got a batch of 3d printed doors from Nelson Pettys- these are really nice as well.- picked up a set of his boat davits while I was at it, hope to have those on in the next day or so-

russclark- I havent been backing this one, its just an indoor model- and I dont think Ill have any trouble with it-

thanks for looking in
Brad

hello brad, your frigate is coming along nicely, and at a fast pace to,must be nice to have someone to look after painting for you  .one question do you back your styrene with wood ,or do you just use heavy gage styrene.?

Hello all,

well, finallly got a little more work in here... Finished the basic structure of the MACK, I used some PVC pipe with a styrene insert to give it the shape it needed. also, finished up some details on the hull, and installed the rudder.

Also, my wife prepared some of the various fittings for paint- here they are before she took them away. (she never lets me touch ANYTHING that applies paint- (smart girl  ))

Hopefully with any luck, the hull will be ready for paint tonight- and we'll start seeing some color!
Best
Brad

The angular structure under the bridge is the Asroc magazine and the doors for the reloading system.

As the others have said, that is indeed for reloading the ASROC launcher. In addition to the FF-1052 class look at photos of the FF-1040 class (FFG-1 class half sisters) as they had very similiar if not the exact same reloading assembly.

Tim is absolutely correct about the angular piece. Knox class ffgs had this piece also. You might find some good photos with the hatches open and the process of reloading the launcher in progress.

A very interesting build, not a common subject, but a really nice one...

Keep the photos coming... :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:
