I've given them a first undercoat and sat them on the ship to see what they look like. I have some more sanding and undercoating to do yet though and there is more detail to add to each mast. Attachment:

Hi All, Happy New Year to everyone! I've spray painted an undercoat on the ship. It helps to highlight all the flaws, bumps, cracks and other marks which I will try to fill or mask later. Attachment:

Hi All, I've made new parts for the ship. Unfortunately, these weren't on the older ship plans that I have, so I had to draw them myself from photos. I don't know how accurate they will be (which bothers me)... but I couldn't find the newer plans. I don't even know what they are called... Can anyone help? One is like a gangplank...lol Attachment:

And I've made the helo bay roller door Attachment:

Next will be some more filling and sanding and an undercoat... Regards, Phil

Hi All, Had a bit of a break thanks to an unwanted holiday in hospital - I don't recommend it! All better now. I started working on the forward mast but made a big mistake (note to self: don't have that second glass of wine while modelling... ) Attachment:

Attachment:
Fwd Mast1.jpg [ 117.34 KiB | Viewed 1075 times ]

Tada! Wait.... Oops! Attachment:
IMG_3383.JPG [ 150.24 KiB | Viewed 1075 times ]
After placing the mast on the ship I quickly realized there was something wrong! I double checked the measurements and discovered it was too high. The base was correct and the side angles were correct. I was about to throw it in the bin and start again - but then I realized, if only the height was wrong, I could just cut it shorter... Rookie mistake! Attachment:

Aop Hi Aop & Aur, You're too kind, thank you. There are some amazing popsicle and match-stick modelers out there, I hope to be as good as them one day. I am enjoying watching your models too. I'm sure you'll do well. I'd just like to show you a comparison of the rudder and propeller from my first build and this one. I believe the only reasons I've improved are firstly hands-on experience and secondly, the inspiration I've gained from the members of this forum. Attachment:

The first one (the red one) looks kind of embarrassing to me now, but it was probably the best I could conceive at the time. Now that I've tried to learn from what the other members are doing, and pushed myself beyond what I thought I was capable of, I'm surprised how well things are turning out. The good thing with scratch building is, if it doesn't work the first time, you can always try again. Happy modelling! Phil

Hi All, I've completed cladding the superstructure. The bridge deck didn't look right so I shortened it. Actually, it was a case of not thinking... Firstly I made the frame and thought it wasn't long enough and impulsively made it 10mm longer. After cladding the superstructure, I realized the bridge deck was out of proportion and measured everything again, and guess what!? It was 10mm too long! So I had to get out the hack saw and cut it back. You may notice the grey coloured outline where I shortened it. Fortunately it wasn't too difficult to fix. Attachment:
