I just received my 72001F1 set yesterday :woo_hoo:
VERY nice.

The deck is a very thin, self-adhesive veneer. It should stain beautifully, and has very nice texture. the engraving and holes are very finely defined. A bit of work will be required on the underlying plastic deck to remove some material under the wooden deck slots, for a proper illusion of depth.

There are 2 frets of PE parts... 1 fret is brass, the other silver-coated. The first thing that impressed me is the scale size of the "safety treading" on the bow & stern deck end areas.
The quality of the PE is superb, and there are many nice details (some that do not exist in other sets).

All of the machined metal parts... and there are A LOT... are of extremely high quality and detail. The periscopes, both attack & "sky" have nicely detailed heads. The UZO pillar is very nice. The propellers are superb, with a shiny gold finish.

The only cast resin item is the attack periscope base to replace the generic, non-descript plastic blob that is included in the kit. There are a lot of PE bits that go into creating the finished base, and from the looks of the instruction pictures it should be a work of art when completed.

The instructions are typical Pontos quality... full-colour, large sheets with large clear pictures and part numbers showing how/where parts go together.

The price may seem a bit daunting, but you get A LOT of high-quality parts in this set... wooden veneer deck, lots of PE, LOTS of machined metal parts, and a finely-cast periscope base.

Just looking at this set, I am very impressed.

Has this Type X11 72 scale kit been released yet?. The sub. itself I am talking about.
Tried everywhere to no avail. Thought it might be a perfect partner for my nearly
finished Flower Corvette.

I mean the Revell Kit that is. I've already preordered my Pontos set. Nice Job guys!

Yes, please do a Gato but with an accurate deck. The Eduard deck plates are wrong, representing a postwar boat (Cobia, as refitted for postwar service) with misplaced and misshapen locator buoys compared to their original look and locations. Their deck is correct of you want to build a postwar boat, but it is not correct for a wartime one. Were proper decks made, a whole slew of midwar Electric Boat and Manitowac Gatos with partially plated decks, fore and aft, would be capable of being modeled.

I tried mentioning this to the Revell rep at Nationals in Orange County a few years ago, and he was less than polite about it. Here's hoping for a proper and accurate deck replacement solution.

I pre ordered mine today. Beautiful work! You guys continue to set the standard. All I can add is that I hope a USN Gato and Type IX U-Boat are in the future!

I had thought of mentioning the very link above as it seems to be a very accurate work..... the only reason for not doing so is the offer etch deck sets and thought that might be a problem..... if it is not I highly recommend the use of the document to better the detail set

What is the proposed release date?

May I recommend that for future release, the deck is stained in a more accurate colour?
The decks were initially stained black, then they faded to charcoal and then got a brownish tinge.
U-boat decks were never a light teak colour.

It is a nice to offer polished brass props.
Early U-boat props (before 1942) were bronze (bright & shiny when new, darker & duller with age).
From 1942 onwards the props were steel.

Some Various sets can be released but I can't promise when they are.
This set is the first project for submarine so we should see the market volume for submarine.

Anyway we would try to add the gold plated screw for this scale Submarines.

there also was a Flagpole on the Bow. It was plugged in when the Boat was in a Harbour.

Well the turret hatch is different shape and size with deck two hatches.
We had found some photos of Staff Tensioner so added

Hi Mr. Kim, this is an outstanding looking set. Have you given any thought to doing a similar set for U.S. Gato / Balao class subs, either in 1/72, 1/144, or 1/200? I would personally prefer 1/144, but would buy any of them.
