Hi Guys,
It's nice to be nice and have something nice said about you, (or me), but it's just as nice to do something nice for someone else.......maybe more so!
Sean,
I know some about the Samek 1/700 kit. If you are really curious, go to the calling all CB fans thread.
faithfully submitted, Tony Bunch

That's really cool! I was hoping for "The Great Secrets of Building the USS Alaska; How to avoid pitfalls and be Super Awesome!" but your tale works too.

What can I say Isn't it nice, when you can rely on people to go out of there way to help other modeler's.
My special praise must go to our Admiral, Ron Horabin, who without his help and generosity, I would not be building Marlborough.
Ron has been a great inspiration to me and set me on the road of scratchbuilding. It all started last summer, when I joined this site, and stumbled on Ron's North Caroliner Build.
Once I saw this ship, I was instantly hooked, to wanting more information. Ron lives not too far from me, so I gave him a phone call and asked him, if I could pop in and see him sometime, when I was in his area ( I was a delivery driver at that time). Ron welcomed me, as though we had been friends for a very long time. He really is a very nice guy and just loves helping other people who are interested in getting into scratchbuilding.
He showed me all his wonderful model's and actually gave me a full set of plans for nothing, that he had purchased from The National Maritime Museum, of the Aircraft carrier H.M.S. Illustrious, which cost him £85.
H.M.S. Victorious, is one of four Illustrious class Carrier's, and this has always been my dream, to own a model of her at some time in my life, as I served on board one of her escort frigates when I was in the R.N. during the 1960's
This model will be started sometime in the near future, but I got hooked on Ron's Iron Duke, which then, was in it's early build stage. Ron, went through the build he had done so far, and I thought that to gain experience, I could follow Ron's lead, by doing my own model of a ship of this class, hence the birth of the Marlborough.
Ron kindly aggreed to loan me the plan's, which I had copied and then returned them back to him.
As most of you have probably looked at my build progress, I am making good headway with my first ever fully scratchbuilt model. Ron, is always there to help, he has even took the trouble to get certain items for me, such as PE and Litho Plate, which I would have found difficult to get hold of.
Since then, Ron and I have become good friends and spend hours chatting to each other by PM or on the phone.
Before I end this half a book, I would just like to thank Dave Wooley, who supplies the Litho Plate for Ron, and for his interest in my efforts so far. It is also nice to receive all the kind words that all of you comment on when viewing my build progress.

In fact they were defective because in my excitment I oversanded the pieces and they were sitting diagonal. We could say that the only defect was me trying to sand resin pieces without experience

Hi Guys,
Sean,
Sylvain had some trouble with a couple of resin deckhouse pieces
with his Samek 1/700 Alaska. I can't remember why they were defective, but Sylvain neded help and Samek had'nt shipped anything in 8 months, (report form Pacific Frt). I had the Samek 1/700 Guam, (same kit), at its beginning stages, so I volunteered to have my pieces copied for him.
Tom from JAG copied these pieces on his own time at home and sent them to me. He even made extras. I shipped the copied pieces to Canada. Sylvain gets on with his model.
Tom gets a Big "Atta Boy", for being a bro.
you see, "it works if you work it".
Great bunch of guys!
While I am at it, Steve Larsen gets a big "atta boy" for sending the Iowa Class scans to me.
Thanks Steve!

Care to share with the rest of the class, Tony? Some of us are contemplating Alaska builds soon.... Please?

I posted an appeal for information for stockists of Airwaves gear, I was hoping to get the Scout-Wasp conversion kit they used to do. A guy in the US responded asking for my postal address and sent me not only the conversion kit but the donor Airfix Scout kit and declined to accept a penny for them.
I just hope I can pass on the favour some day.

Some times you can be blessed enough to run into someone like that. Just when you have run out of faith in humanity someone lets out a small beam of light just in time to keep you going.

GOOD GUY ALERT!!! |
|
|
Hi Guys,
I want to recogize Chad, (Grim Reaper), as one hck of a nice guy. He sent to me a set of old, (and very hard to find), GMM 1/96 decals.
The decals and some no longer available p/e radars have really helped me to get along with my 96th DD Fletcher FRAM.
I hope that some day I can return the favor. This is a good fraternity!
Atta Boy Chad!
Thanks, Tony Bunch
