Hiyo was laid down 10 months after Junyo, though they were launched 2 days apart. She was commissioned 6 weeks after Junyo.

Haijun watcher wrote: Just curious... Why did Junyo enter service first if Hiyo is the class leader?
Was it because Hiyo's conversion took longer? Also I think I remember reading Hiyo was prone to engine problems like Ryuho so that could have caused the delay. Also if I am sure done a different ship yards then its a matter of the paperwork. If the merchant for Hiyo was requisitioned first the probably named class leader.

In march 1945, she'll still have her armament.
The kit is relatively straightforward right out of the box.

If you are planning to represent her as of March, 1945, then I would think yes to camo and to armament.(Retained armament)

According to her TROM, camouflage was applied in April, 1945 (probably to her deck, as she was clearly wearing camo on her hull in December, 1944). The postwar photo below shows some remnants of camo on the flight deck. Her TROM also refers to the removal of her armament beginning on August 5th, for use elsewhere.

Well, as I wrote, only at Santa Cruz did their air groups approximate what they were designed for.
The Tamiya kit has stood the test of time very well, but the new Fujimi kits really are an improvement.

By planned I mean the one they were suppose to have when the convertion started. How good is the tamiya kit (planning to do a somewhat what if repaired junyo after march 1945) ?

Do you mean planned air group? The only time they seem to have had a full complement is for the the Battle of Santa Cruz.
Bu I could be wrong about that.

Looks effective. The postwar view of Junyo's flight deck is clearly more worn from lack of maintenance.
