Hello guys Im building the Markgraf from ICM in 1/700 and the instruction suggest a small range fingfer on top of the Turret's roof number #4, I thought that this small range finder was only available/attached/used/etc by later war (1917 ? ). Shall I omitted it for an early war Konig class battleship ? Thanks in advance.

There are only slight differences in the kit on the yardarms of the foremast.

Gentlemen,
I should probably read through this entire thread, but time presses . . .. Are the ICM 1/350 Koenig class ships each from the same molds? Or, do the kits reflect the minor differences between the actual ships?
Thanks!

I question the relevance of gadcabs' post to the König class thread, but the Nelson class configuration was primarily a result of careful planning to allow the maximum weight of armour to the magazine areas by arranging all three turrets' magazines next to each other, thus making the best use of the displacement allowed under the Washington Treaty, and avoiding the need to have two separate magazines requiring more armour. In theory, the "A" arcs for the 16" guns extended to about 30⁰ either side of dead astern (20⁰ for "B" turret"), but firing thus would have incurred significant blast damage to the bridge superstructure, so would have been avoided if at all possible.

Re: Calling all SMS König class fans |

I have a question regarding the flag hoisting tradition (if that's the correct term) of Imperial German navy. I'm building a 1/700 SMS König to be displayed at mooring. In this situation, can I have Naval Jack on the bow, a rank flag on the foremast and a war ensign on the main mast? I saw at least a photo of König with what look like the battle ensign flying on the main mast and a vice admiral flag on the foremast, while the ship appeared to be in or departing from the harbor. In another photo, SMS Markgraf is seen with a Naval Jack on the bow and a war ensign on the main mast.
I'm only familiar with IJN and I think their practice is the ensign on the stern when in port and on the main mast when underway. So I would appreciate some lecture on the practice of of Imperial German navy.
Thank you
Nanond

So you can use one and the same wooden deck to model each of these ships. If there were any detail differences between the ships on deck level, the references from these ships are so scarce that you are on your own. The little wooden deck part 2 in your reference is also one of the errors in the kit: this deck was not planked, but laid with the same dark red 'battleship linoleum' as all the higher decks from the superstructure, up to the searchlight platforms.

Yes that's right. The crane boom was laid on the deck during combat or exerises. The small boats where also left in harbour, as the would interfer with the guns.

Thanks for the answer, I feared that and I have to remove this extra level now without damage to my already finished model...thanks ICM.
Edit:Strange enough ICM's artwork depicts Гроссер Курфюрст with correct bridge shape.

I believe ICM's remdition with the extra bridge is incorrect. Markgraf may have had the upper bridge added around 1917, but I do not believe Grosser Kurfurst ever had it.
