Does anyone here know who makes a 1/700 kit of any of the Swedish coastal defence battleships? Namely the Sverige, the Drotning Victoria and the Gustav V?

HP models only seems to offer a kit of the Royal Swedish Navy cruiser Gotland, but no Swedish battleships.

They have some fine lines, if you know what I mean, and they look similar to the British R class battleships or even the Queen Elizabeth's battleships in their 1920s configuration.

Hi James,

Nice build!
Very happy to see a build of one of our "Pansarskepp" = Armoured ship.
She is one of our three Coastal defence ships or Coastal battleships as they were also called.

Why Your interest in swedish ships?

Please post more pics!!!

Cheers!

Patrick

Splendid work about a very interesting ship !

I wonder about the wisdom of using wood as a building material though, as it might not age too well, especially if mixed with plastic and metal.

:welcome: to modelwarships.com

An unusual but well deserved ship to make a model of!!

Coincidentally... I came across this fine photo of Drotning V from the
Blog of a japanese Digital colorist....
link below

Please show more images of this model-- either before paint and/or

close-up images are always interesting--especially when constructed all of wood.

You may find the work of this modeller interesting also...

These three ships constituted the "battleship squadron" of the Swedish Navy during WWII. Right now I can't find my book on the Swedish Navy during the WWII years, but checking some other references I have found the following data:
HMS Gustaf V: Launched 1918, Modernized 1939, Deplacement ca. 7900 t, Speed ca. 22 kn; Armament: 4x28 cm, 6x15cm, 4x75mm AA-guns, 4x40mm AA-guns, 4x25mm AA-guns.
:destroyer:

IIRC the other two ships were about the same.

All three ships were scrapped shortly after the war.

Found the reference book today. These three ships were the last of the "pansarskepp" (armoured ship) type built for the Swedish Navy. A more international name for the class would probably be coastal battle ship.

HMS Sverige (Sweden) was the lead ship of the class, launched 1917. HMS Drottning Victoria (Queen Victoria) was launched in 1921 and HMS Gustaf V in 1922. All ships were modified several times in the late 20's and during the 30's. These changes mainly consisted in reducing the secondary armament and increasing the AA.

All three ships have at times served as flagship of the fleet.

HMS Sverige was decommisioned in 1953 and the other two as late as 1957. All were later sold for scrap. Wish at least one of them had been saved as a museum ship.
