The flags are painted on. The colours are shown on the navsource link above. It is the 4 letter call sign of the ship.
The e on the radar is white.
Not sure about #4, will see if I can find any better pics.

The above link also shows you the signal flags for the international call letters, your number 3. A link that might also help (although it is hard to tell which "E" is which) is: https://www.navysite.de/what/bridgewing ... Battle%20E. The engineering one on the funnel would be red.

[quote="DrPR"]Ivan,

Good afternoon. Thank you very much dear DrPR and Admhawk with pleasure to read the information., Which forced new questions .. it was decided to dwell on this option ... Questions: 1) after all, what color were these letters DC ..EW .. E and C ), the letters on the radar of the same color as on the installation of weapons are white? ... well, for my education: 3) do these flags seem to be drawn? ... 4) is very similar to the drawing of a boat ..?
I apologize in advance for such sensitive issues .. thank you., Regards Ivan

Mk-26 Launcher with white letters.

You can find the Award Ribbons the ship had on this page.
http://www.navsource.org/archives/04/1148/040148.htm

There are more than in the 80's photo because ships get new awards every time they go into a warzone.

Ivan,

#1 would be the fleet, squadron or flotilla commander's insignia. I don't know what it was but you might find it on the Internet.

#2 Is several "efficiency" symbols, signaling that the ship made a good score in fleet exercises in the different categories.

https://navylive.dodlive.mil/2014/11/18 ... f-history/

These are the current symbols. They were sometimes different in the past, so you need to know the year.

The E on the funnel is for Engineering. It was red.

The E on the gun mount and missile launcher was white.

The large white E with black shadow on the bridge wing is for battle excellency.

I don't know what the EW and DC marks were for (EW = Electronic Warfare?).

The hashmarks "/" under the letters means the ship had won the award in the previous fleet exercises - one hashmark for each consecutive year.

#4 is the ships "ribbons" or medals awarded to the ship.

The blocky looking stuff are PCMS tiles.. radar absorbing material. One of the program challenges was to get the colors to match so that the CO would not direct they be painted. The stuff is somewhat degraded by one or more layers of paint.

Patrick,

If you can get your hands on a copy of Steve Wiper's Pictorial book on the Tico's on page 39 there is a fairly close picture of a flagbag that should get you where you want to be. As far as the surrounding area, there are enough other pictures that you should be able to come up with a reasonable representation.

best,
Bruce

Thanks Bruce for the reply. I have that book and the edition I have mistakenly labels it as the starboard side flag bag so I think I glossed over it before. However the area I'm specifically looking for is the area just forward of the flag bag and the "rack" where all of the ropes are tied. I don't think there is anything between the rack and the bridge structure but I just wanted to make sure.

OK. Thanks for the clarification. Or maybe someone has drawings of this stern shield (or at least dimensions) so that I can make it to scale and install it on my ship?

It is called a stern flap; https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/stern-flap.htm

None of the ticos were built with this extension. They all had it installed in the 90's or early 2000's.

So yes, bunker hill does have it now.

It reduces drag from water pulling on the vertical stern, making it easier for the ship to move forward. This saves fuel.

Many navy ships have it installed around the world.

Hi James

I think you may order these hull plans from Floating Drydock: http://floatingdrydock.com/HULL.htm

To my own surprise! I would have expected these plans were still classified. Good luck with your build anyway!

Does anyone have a good picture or a good library to reference of the port side flag bag and deck area? I am having a real hard time trying to find any reference on this area. Unfortunately, the googles has not returned any good results. I am making the USS San Jacinto and cut off the amorphous blobs that are molded on and I want a better representation of this area. Thanks in advance.

I have no comment on quality, I have heard some bad things, but have seen pics of it built that look okay, so decide for yourself.
http://www.arkmodel.com/product_info.ph ... cts_id=366

Other than that, it will be buying parts from various suppliers, or making your own. Both of which is what most of us do. There are also people who will get a hull and structure to the point where it runs, then you finish the details.

Warship models underway has all the links.
