The AKA Models kits looks on the photos better. The EV Model kits I have are not really good - but I do not have any of the new kits of the Ping Hai class. I made the mistake to built the Fairy Kikaku kit.

It seems we now have 2 more choices for this class of ROCN/IJN cruiser; both ships of the class are produced by each of these two competing brands: EV Models 1/700 Ping HaiAKA Models 1/700 Ping Hai

Because Oceanmoon had not yet released a Ning Hai kit, I built the Fairy Kikaku kit - one of the worst kits I have ever built:

Thanks for the pictures Mr.WaWa. 謝謝!
Why didn't you finish it when you started it a couple of years ago? I'd very much like to see you finish it.

Is this based on the Kobu Hiryu hull of the Japanese version? Which plans do you use?
And which are the protected cruisers behind?

I will dig around for informations.. if you need.. I am guessing you were attempting a scratch-build, not a kit? It would be nice if you could post pictures of your attempt to scratch-build.

Calling all Ning Hai (甯海) / IJN Isojima (五百島) class fans |
|
|
(photo courtesy of Jane's World Fighting Ships, 1945 edition) I am surprised there isn't already a thread on this class of ships, after doing a thorough search using the terms "Ping Hai" or "Ning Hai". I am also disappointed that there doesn't seem to be 1/700 models out there of this rarely covered subject. For those unaware, these two light cruisers were built in Japan in the early 1930s and were the most modern, larger ships of the Republic of China Navy (ROCN) when the war with Japan began in 1937. The Ping Hai was sunk by IJN bombers on Dec. 23rd, 1937, while her sister Ning Hai only lasted 2 days longer, being sunk on Dec. 25. Both were later raised and used by the Japanese, with the names Isojima and Yasojima. The former was sunk by a USN submarine in Sept. 1944, while the latter was sunk by USN carrier-based torpedo bombers later that year.
