Here a model of a modernized Anzac class frigate, HMAS Warramunga, built using the Dodo Models kit: Together with HMAS Anzac and SAS Amatola (a MEKO A-200SAN): HMAS WarramungaThere are some differences between the modernized ships, e.g. different turrets and different small antenna at the main mast. I wanted first to built Perth, but she still has the old 5" turret, therefore I have chosen Warramunga, for which I found also a reasonable number of good photos. I added a third boat and some armour around the positions for the MGs.

Where photos of HMAS Anzac in 2003 at the time of the Battle of Al Faw can be found?
I tried the Australian War Memorial, but failed to find something there.

Just noticed this discussion on the Shapeways 1/700 Anzac. I'm doing the same thing as you ASSR I've been speaking to Sander Wit who did the design and he has now released a stripped down version plus hes re done the ASMD mast to have 6 of the diamond shaped panels instead of eight. He also released the mast on its own so you can replace the ones on yours. He has also filled in all the depressions on the flightdeck and there are decal markings available that can be made to fit. I'm working on a modern RAN diorama based on Fleet Base West, and these Anzacs are a godsend. I've now got three but have just been working on one to work out how all the details are going to go together. I've also got a couple of 3d printed Armidale class PB's made by Sander plus a Collins class sub done by someone else. I've since worked out the sub is a real lousy shape and won't be using it. I'm just waiting on the replacement masts to arrive for the Anzacs but heres a couple of pics of what I have going on good fun cheers Callum

Hi Everyone, For Perth I cut off the printed SPS-49, VLS and 127mm (which is the new gunhouse) to replace with spares. Everything else is as-moulded or, where something was missing, spares. The flight-deck includes several markings printed as depressions. I used thick white paint to fill this, with moderate success. Arunta is under construction, and will be more extensively worked on. I replaced the gun, Harpoons, 49 and a few other minor points. I'm not going to sand the hull smooth, but did use an automotive primer - which adhered well and filled some texture. Also, the torpedo tubes generally have a canvas cover and this can be suggested by painting (also, I'm short of tubes!) They have included eight radar panels on the mast - my photos suggest the ships have six. More minor suggestions would be to not mould the RHIBs, radomes and liferafts - at least for those who print in the white stuff! Also, I will go about a conversion to backdate one to the earlier fit without the new mast and radar (unless they offer one!). Happy modeling!

This is fantastic - I had no idea that Anzac class frigate was available in 1/700 anywhere. I've been scouring the web for a MEKO 200 that I could kit bask into an Anzac class - this is much better

I have seen already the FUD print quality of the ANZAC by Dutch Fleet Naval Miniatures on Shapeways and I was impressed. It still have to be sanded to get smooth surfaces and I would probably replace many of the small parts, e.g. the Harpoon launchers and torpedo tubes, but the model otherwise looked good.

Hi all, Further to this discussion, there's now a 700 scale waterline upgraded ANZAC on Shapeways. I have a photo of what appeared in the post, plus what some hours of work (and a raid of the spares box) can produce with very little effort. For what it's worth, the white plastic is the cheapest option but leaves a textured surface as shown - in fact the decals have already fallen off!!! I will order one of the smoother (and more expensive) options soon to do Arunta! Best wishes to all! Al

Hi Brett & others,
Yes we finally released the kit, it was rushed out in a bit of a hurry as we wanted to release it at the Modle Expo here in Melbourne. It was so rushed that the first 6 kits have no instructions...I hope to finish the instructions this weekend. To make up for the inconvenience I have offered something as a bonus. Anyway getting back to the kit. Contains waterline & full hull option, includes decals, chain, colour chips and several special offers.
The version shown above is indeed Anzac in about 2009 to current. The kit itself includes the gun upgrade, Nulka upgrade, Harpoon upgrade and an AS350 Squirrel. Also enclosed are alternate flag-bags as the RAN soon adopted the RNZN version. This enables you to do any version up to the Phased Array upgrade (currently PERTH) The verdict is still out on including the PA upgrade as a seperate kit altogether, an upgrade kit or just include it in the basic kit. Also on option (as one kit has already gone to NZ) is the NZ option. Different halyards, electro-opticals, flightdeck & Phalynx. Also a bit cheeky the missile launcher is a 16 cell version...you just need to scrape off 8 cells to make it accurate.
In the initial 6 kits, we were unhappy with the cast of several small pieces, these will be redone and sent out with the new instructions. Also we have come a little unstuck as we intended to have Veteran accessories (ie Harpoon launchers, Phalnyx, SBROCs) however Melvin is having some casting problems, this will make us look elsewhere or do it ourselves...as we stock & sell his wonderful bits we thought it would be a great asset to the kit. Never mind hopefully it can be worked out soon. Our next batch will be done in about two weeks & after that should be available regularly. Thanks to all those who have supported us in this.

Good one Brett, Not my build mate, Adam built that one in record time for the show. He did a good job, especially considering the time constraints. I' think both gun variants are in the kit, not 100% sure. I'll leave the other details of the Kit for Kev to respond to. I don't have the kit as yet. I have plenty of other jobs on my list, and I must admit, I'm very partial to Perth.

Thanks for the headsup Dav, I have just ordered my kit this morning, out of 4 in stock I secured the 3rd, and someone else emailed for the 4th, there are no more in stock, at present. That is a nice build Dav,yours? and does the kit have both main gun variants? If you read this Kev, well done mate, it`s been in the pipeline for what 10 years? I know before I even get it that the craftmanship will be first class. Cheers, Brett M.

I don't know what They're going to do in regards to runs etc. but I do know that they are planning on doing a Perth variant. The kit at present can be built as any of the current vessels. I have photos but don't know how to attach them here.
