Another question; anyone know of any photos of the missile silos opened to use as a paint guide?

Anyone know what the pre-fouled colour color of the the sonar dome on Vanguard Class SSBNs are? I'm working on a Bronco kit right now and it's the one area I'm undecided on. Based on the links below I'm going to use Model Master's Aircraft interior black for most of the hull, with a section of gloss black from the middle of the hull up to the bottom of the bow dive planes, and flat black in the walking/non-skid area:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/feb/1 ... es-collide
(Note the red outline around the vents on the bottom of the hull... should be fairly easy to do on the kit with a wash)
But the sonar area is always covered by cloth or water.

The Astute incident of 08 APR, although tragic does afford at least one tidbit for the modeler. The extended masts are certainly more green than grey, or grey molted as on US SSN's.

Video here. Btwn 9 and 11 seconds into the video the green masts are evident.

Hi,

The Astute is shipping and ready. There were a lot of problems with it, almost like with the real one. However, the 1/700 scale is most probably not going to be done at this point. We had ours very far along when HobbyBoss announced theirs and I felt it was worth getting the project finished, after all. But the 1/350 is ready

Thank you,

Pavel

Thank you :)

Hasn't arrived yet; The kit is done, but Pavel was having problems getting the decals printed. I'll check in with him hopefully this weekend to see what's shaking....

Hello David,
HMS Resolution is not “coming soon”, it’s already here:)
As for HMS Dreadnought- I want to build all British nuclear submarines, unfortunately I can’t find any draws. For Resolution I use draws from www. jecobinplans.com but they have only for 4 types.
So if you can help me with draws for the earliest types I will design the models a.s.a.p.
Regards
Georgi

Hello, although a lot further in the past than the Nuclear subs, but is there any chance of WW1 British Submarines, E class etc?

I cant for the life of me figure out how that bow profile is quiet. It seems like the water would flow pretty poorly across that sharp edge.

I understand the bow profile (in my photo) is altered by protective parts put on to cover secret equipment fitted there.

Regarding the new HMS Resolution kit coming soon; whilst any Barrow-built is welcome I, personally, would have preffered one of HMS Dreadnought. It was launched on 21/10/1960 and this month marks the fiftieth anniversary.

Interesting...interesting.

Well, they clearly feel it works well so apparently it isnt noisy. The caps make sense to hide all the good bits from prying eyes.

I just received my four 1/350 scale Trafalgar class boats from Squadron. Are there any modifications I should be aware of before I start a build?

Good to be here.

I also got the 1/700 Trumpeter USS Mass BB.

Pavel,

By the look of things we don't have long to wait in 1/350th anyway!

I will be getting this kit when it is released. Hopefully; boat 2, Ambush, should be rolled out sometime in December. I will be on the bridge over the docks to get some photos.

Hi,

I was wondering if any one else is interested in this new RN Submarine? :anyone: It has such a odd shape and looks quite different to the usual USN type submarines.

How may of you would like a model of her like me?

Pavel

Someone is interested. :cool_2:
I purchase all submarine draws fro Jacobins, and can guarantee that they are very very good. I already design Resolution, and last nights prepare the rest of the draws for work.
In our next series there must be at least HMS Vanguard and HMS Astute.
Unfortunately for now I’m unable to find draws of the older RN subs.
So any suggestion where I can find such are welcome.

Airfix just came out with a Trafalgar class ssn in 1/350th, only seven pounds sterling.... pretty good for the price and not badly molded.
