Thank you gentlemen, I really appreciate the feedback! I certainly gave it my best to bring attention to a subject ( Ticonderoga class) that generally gets a lot less invested in it, than it deserves . But for future generations I hope that a respectable manufacturer will present a MUCH more accurate kit of the class, because this endeavour was very tiring at times. In the meantime: best of luck to all the poor souls who love these ships as much as I do !
Happy modelling : Laci

Hello everyone! Thank you for the comments , they helped me to get to this point A LOT: everything good comes to an end, so must this! The Vincennes is DONE Well, I never installed those pesky bags across the cranes for the captain's gig, but I feel like I will actually do them in the future. Thank you SG1, I want to keep my 350 scale aircraft skills current, because my next ship is LHD-1 Wasp, and I plan to have 15-20 aircraft on that flight deck! They are so much fun! ( when you are not building 50 of the same thing....) Navydavesof: It's crazy, JUST today I was talking to my best friend ( also a modeler) about expanding my navy. I told him that I don't think I will have more than 6 ships in my collection. I have 2 finished now, got two 700 scale carriers kinda started, and the Wasp in 350, and maybe I will built 1 more of something. My interest is only modern US Navy ( in ships) but not too modern, and I don't find a lot of the ships shapely enough. I mostly build aircraft and helos. If I didn't narrow down my genre, I would fall victim to the hobby in the way so many others do: I would buy 985734760 kits of every kind, but still only have 1 lifetime to work on them. So this "discrimination" helps with maintaining sanity What is a WIF ship? I feel like everyone who ever planned to build a Ticonderoga-class cruiser, is painfully aware of what is available out there for kits (its the same poor design from 4 different manufacturers), but I figured I include some photos comparing the original kit OOB, and what can be done to it after countless hours of research and scratchbuilding... It is scary Not perfect, but this is as far as my skills take me. Jim expressed interest in seeing this ship in water , but "building water" is a skill I lack completely. And instead of learning it, I'll build more airplanes and helicopters. But he is right, "water" would be more fitting.. Thank you all for checking out this build. It was challenging to say the least, but with people checking it out and sending those positive vibes it was fun too! Happy modeling in the New Year too! Cheers: Laci

Hello Everyone, a quick update! 'Perfect construction"?! Ha ha, thank you Jaguar, But no! If it looks that way, it's just the camera being very gracious! For instance I lost one half of the double doors on the front of the superstructure years ago, and so far I have been able to hide the fact that it's missing... And because they are not standard doors, I will have a very difficult time replacing/making them.... But I am very grateful for the positive comments! I am very close to finishing ( have been for weeks ), but I didn't realize I was out of blue for the uniforms of my crewmembers, so I had to order that. Should be here before the Boxing Day! But most of the rigging and ALL of the flags have been installed, Plus they called me from the glass shop today: My glass case required to protect this little guy is ready for pickup! Merry Christmas, and happy modelling in the New Year too! Cheers: Laci Merry Christmas

Thank you for those who commented and for the kind fords! A real honour, Jim! I wish I could transport my 2 ships to Telford! Or to any competition, for that matter.... I am getting a lot of little things done, and enjoying it quite a bit since I only have a week or so left of this project!! I keep finding/correcting a lot of mistakes, so I am especially thankful for my camera to have hid them in the first place.... Aside from a little weathering left, the PORT and Starboard sides are COMPLETE! I do have some work left on the bow, the stern and on the SH-60. I handpicked a crew because I think they will add a bit of color to the ship. Especially since normally there aren't a bunch of crewmembers all over the decks during operations on these class of ships. I apologize for the cellphone pics for now, and there will be more professional looking pictures coming at the end. Happy modelling: Laci

I have just binge-read the whole thread from the beginning. Your work is sharp, well executed and uncompromising . The ship is not of my era of interest or obsession- - but the quality shines though! well done Jim Baumann

I see familiar names with the responses: WELCOME BACK, and thank you for the kind words!!!! Marijn: What are you working on now?!? Neptune: Haha, I see what you mean, it's not very pretty at first....There was a bit of wet-sanding at the joint of the hull and the SS ( superstructure) ... I especially appreciate the compliments about the weathering because it is all shooting from the hip. These ships for the majority of the time are kept very neat and clean , and new-looking ( yes, I have seen pics to the contrary, but not of Vincennes), so it's hard to weather them realistically, and I can only hope I succeeded... It should almost be left clean gray ( in this scale), but then it would just look like a toy.... Devin: OMG, is it ever a difficult kit!! Very little is left original....I would so welcome a new kit of this class!!! I was not aware of the Flyhawk kit, But I am sure it's gonna be excellent, and probably will have saved me so much time and prevent so much aggravation.... I moved onto the PORT side, and currently bogged down with the captain's gig.... Happy modelling! Laci
