Topic review - Shell Welder Coastal Tanker 1/130

Hello!

Thanks for the question. I used a variety of enamel paints, but I don't recall the specific colours. My choice was guided by this photograph:

I did not follow any of the painting guides from the kit instructions. You can see more images of the paints I used in the gallery here:

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Bill

A really nice build, Bill. I love all the attention to detail. Did you ever figure out what the little green, yellow, and red circles are for?

Thanks everyone for your kind words! I decided to stop with a subtle black wash and not apply a heavy weathering treatment before sealing everything in clear flat. I plan to finish the last few small details and bring this project to completion in the next few days....

Cheers,

Bill

Very nice work. Crisp and clean, I like it. It's definitely an interesting model and one we don't see often.

Oh. I thought recent tankers ('50's to present) were much bigger. :wave_1:

Out of curiosity, what era is this ship from (the ship, not the model  ), '30's...or '40's? :wave_1:

I imagine that this kit could be adapted to a generic coastal vessel with enough scratch work. The hull is actually not bad and a few of the other parts can be used, but in general this kit is very poorly molded and requires a great deal of effort to build a decent Shell Welder. For those that enjoy scratch building and a challenge, this is the kit for you. I am relieved to be almost finished and am satisfied with the results, but I will not try this kit a second time.......

Cheers,

Bill

Looks like the kit can be bought for the hull only and throw out just about everything else, and rebuild it from the deck up as a 1/144 tramp steamer, or coaster. Fictitious steamer in neutrality colors being ordered for stop and search by 1/144 Uboat. :wave_1:

Final pictures for today showing various views and second try at those spare fuel hose lengths......

Not much left to do now - basically just the boats, position the crew, general touch up and mount on permanent display stand with clear case.

Many thanks for having a look, your questions and comments are always welcome

Cheers,

Bill

I very much like the hose sections-- they look very hosey!

Excellent work on this not-often-seen model!
