Thanks guys! I’ll try to submit some pics to the gallery soon. Abram, yes Colorado was in MS-1/5 with unpainted decks for a very short time from the end of May until August when she arrived a Puget Sound for her refit. Don’t forget to put some range clocks on her fighting tops if you decide to go with this camo scheme.

Simply stunning. A masterpiece of photo-to-model work on display.
I'll third the motion for a gallery entry!

Yessir, Trumpeter kits, I'm using the West Virginia kit for the base. I have my first attempt at the Maryland that I can use the superstructure from. I'll be using the Five-Star photo etch set, a wood deck overlay, and a bunch of 3D parts too. She was in "regular" Ms1/5 with 5D/5L and wood decks, correct?

Mine is a major kit bash with a Maryland hull by Pit-road, Colorado superstructure from Loose Canon and 3D parts for the masts, tops, guns. Mary’s superstructure is the closest to Colorado’s ‘41 fit. Colorado’s signal bridge however was a bit different than both WeeVee and Mary’s.

Love it, and I know it took some balls to decide to "sink" a 1/350 resin WeeVee but the outcome and the dedication to this moment in history is awesome. Great techniques and what a perfect way to enlighten young people visiting this sight on what happened at Pearl on December 7th 1941. Many adults don't know and that's sad. Keep up that PH passion Jeff and can't wait to see future models.

Time to put another multi-year project in the books and call it DONE and move on to another one.

Well, this is another reason I’ve dragged my feet on this one for so long. The turrets are weathered 5-D as an experiment to see how they photographed. If you want my opinion on Arizona’s actual color, after all the years of analyzing numerous film and stills of her after the attack and after doing the same with footage of West Virginia who shows similar tonal variances, I’ve completely convinced myself that the fires and heat on both ships were so incredibly intense and did quite a number on all the parts of the ship exposed to said fire and heat. I feel that is why ‘Zona’s aft turrets appear lighter than the main mast but not as light as ships and boats known to be painted in 5-S. Any of the 5-S theories for her have way too many holes in them to be credible, including the comments the one sailor said about the ship being partially painted in sea blue. Until further evidence gets presented supporting any of the 5-S theories, I must go with 5-D on her. With that decision behind me now, the main thing I’m struggling with is the color of her #1 turret top. Besides the ONE overhead Japanese photograph of battleship row (which is very unreliable for too many reasons to go into here) that suggests both the forward turret tops were painted red, there are no photos that show both tops painted red in 1941. The film of her from 4/1/1941 proves that only her #2 top was red at that time. Nevada was the same way in that film and photos after the attack shows that Nevada’s #1 top was still not red. Sorry for the long winded response but it’s a subject I really enjoy discussing.

Jeff, It has been a while, I've been pursuing other interests as of late (N scale model railroading), but have rekindled my desire to work on my long term project (The US Pacific Fleet in November/December 1941 in 1/700) so your builds are not only inspiring, but good reference material. Looks like you're doing AZ just before her demise (as opposed to after the attack like this)? I still need to find myself a 1/700 Vestal. I'm also looking at doing a 1/2400 model of battleship row. On your AZ are the turrets and barbetts the same color as the hull? I'm trying to figure out if its just the angle of the surfaces reflecting the light that makes them look a lighter color. I built a 1/700 model of the AZ a while ago: I colored mine this way based on the possibility they repainted the hull after her collision with Oklahoma (since i don't believe there are any photos of her hull afterwards), the turrets lighter because they look lighter in photographs, and the superstructure 5D because of the photo of her in drydock in November. I know her color will most likely always be in debate (unless some new information surfaced while I was on 'hiatus'), but I wanted to experiment. I have another kit I plan on building better (PE, 3D parts, etc) and haven't decided how to paint it yet. Anywho, enough about me, looking forward to more of your progress!

Hi Abram, It's been awhile since our paths have crossed. Thanks for checking in! My kids with all their extra curricular activities have kept me away from the workbench, so not much progress on anything lately. I'm still just detailing the hell out of this diorama before I move on to the Ariz/Vestal dio which is patiently waiting to take center stage on the workbench. I'm not sure if they will be next though, I'm itching to do an Atlantic subject but I don't have a specific one that I can settle on yet.

Jeff. Amazing! No other words really do this justice. I'm looking forward to the other builds (more on AZ's progress and Nevada's build) I'd love to see more photos of the 1/700 too.
