Topic review - IJN Yamato, 1/350, 1945
Author Message

I have ordered the 'new tool' version.

I've got tired of continuous bad fitting, mistakes in this old kit. Considering the number of aftermarket parts I have bought it was also a shame...

I have also ordered Skulski's book so we will see what will come out of it...

Anyway, good luck with Your build!

Jose, when You will have: 3 Kids, Wife and house than You will see! ;)

Thank you Larry! I do recommend the new tool. Having owned both it's no comparison. Keep in mind there is much conflicting information on Yamato even between aftermarket sets. There are 4 views on the AA shields on the 25 mms open mounts alone. Make a judgement call and don't get too caught up in getting every detail correct. Even Skulski and Tamiya differ on the number of open 25mms mounts (26 vs 28). I went with 28.

New tool version defo is a great kit, though it has some flaws. Mind though, the Skulski book contains errors as well!

Thank You very much.

As I have been looking through the books on Yamato the greatest help will be: 'Super drawings in 3D - Yamato' from Kagero. I have already ordered this position.

Joe,
It looks that despite the fact it is a 'new tool' version, there are still many mistakes and parts needing correction...

I have the early version of the model and it is much worse. I am honestly thinking about buying the 'new tool' version. What is Your advice?

Awesome work, Joe!! It is coming along beautifully! I don't know how you guys who build 1:350 boats do it. I have enough trouble with 1:200. I'd go blind, not to mention start raving mad, if it were any smaller.

You're going to have a real masterpiece when you get it finished.

On eBay search Yamato Musashi Anatomy. I see one for $50.

I would like to buy this book and I only find the old release.

Thank you Martin and Gewoon! Progress is steady at 10 hours a week. I only photograph when I have enough done. The paravanes were a pain and took about a week. Thanks again.

About time! :heh:

I especially like the way the main battery turrets are coming along, and your "barrel farm". Do you have to water those to make more barrels grow?

Looking very good there Joe!

Those paravanes are things which left me frustrated and in anger when trying to assemble them  Well done!

More progress. I am assembling much of the Pontos add-ons. The secondary turrets are plated with Lion Roar sheets. The barrels and blast bags are Pontos.
