Happy New Year!
Before the New Year started a I did a quick build of SS-model's 1/700 ROCS
Hai Chou kit. For those unaware, the
Hai Chou was one of two Chinese warships to ever engage Japanese warships in surface combat in the Second Sino-Japanese War of 1937. Apparently before she was in Chinese service, she used to be in British Royal Navy service as the
Arabis-class sloop HMS
Pentstemon.
It is a resin kit and only was the SECOND resin kit I've ever built, so please be kind.
It is mostly done, but just needs PE and rigging, which did not come with the kit. The kit also didn't come with enough davits for the lifeboats; one pair broke so I'm looking at possibly using more of the
Tamiya "Heavy Vessel Ordnance Set" davits or spare "dreadnought sprue set" parts from already built IJN kits to replace the davits.
In the 2nd picture I placed it beside an earlier build of the IJN light cruiser
Kuma for comparison purposes, which only understates the mismatch of the naval forces between Republican China and Imperial Japan at the time.
