You might want to check if Guam had the Mount Captain's hoods installed. Alaska only had hoods on the 54 and 55 mounts due to the proximity of 40 mm mounts. Unlike the fast Battleships they had widely spaced mounts and not the blast interference between them. In photos I have seen of Guam, she might or might not have hoods on the 54-55 mounts. To me it looks like not.

Another easy to spot detail differing Guam from Alaska is the radar fitted to the MK 38 main battery directors, Guam, and not Alaska features the model using a semi streamlined cover over the antenna. From a modelers perspective, easier to replicate.

This was one area where ALASKA and GUAM differed, with ALASKA fitted with the earlier director shields and GUAM fitted with the "cockpit" director shields. The object visible in the photos of ALASKA is the director officer's Mark 3 slewing sight. Here's a great photo of GUAM with the cockpit visible: https://www.navsource.org/archives/04/1202/04020208.jpgAnd here's a closeup of the early style director with the slewing sight visible outside the director shield: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/proxy ... I hate rivet counters! However Guam had the MK 37 directors with the cupola on the left side whereas Alaska did not.

I love the hangar interior details!
Depending on what timeframe you are drawing GUAM, the radar sets for the Mark 38 directors as supplied in this detail-up kit may be incorrect -- GUAM received the "airfoil" shaped Mark 8 Mod.3 (or possibly Mark 13) fire control radars on her Mark 38 directors in late 1944 before heading to the Pacific. Also, GUAM's Mark 37 directors were the later "Shield Mod.17+" type, with cockpits for the director officer's slewing sight. These are small changes most model companies seem to miss on GUAM.

Maybe if I was building my 1:192 Alaska today, I would have an open hangar, but of course I have no info as to what the hangar interior looked like. Nice work in 1:350. I couldn't tell from the photo but I presume that the MK 37 directors have the cupola whereas the Alaska ones did not.

Very nice! I opened the hangar on a 1/350 Alaska I've been working on, but it doesn't look nearly as good as yours does (I also only opened up one side). Really great stuff!

Looks good! I scratch built a 1:192 Alaska, which is finished except for a "water Base" as it's a WL model. These are very graceful vessels!
Cheers: Tom

It will be slow, but hopefully it will work. I'm still looking for a photo, I didn't find much.

Autumn is definitely here and it's time to cut a bigger project for long autumn and winter evenings. The model will be more or less unedited, I haven't found many photos, so there's not much to edit. I have a few accessories to revive the model .
