Looking thru this book, found some interesting info on color schemes. I had heard that the dark colored turrets on French warships were grease, but not an explanation of why they did this? According to the authors, this was a mixture of grease and soot that was applied during and after WWI, to be less of a fire hazard than paint. Funny thing is, if the grease was animal fat from the mess, it would be pretty flamible! There is also useful info on bottom color, green and red, when they were used and we'll, just about everything. For those interested in this subject it is a must have.

Got it today, great book with lots of new pictures and info these ships. My only negative comment would be the color renderings, which are beautiful portraits of some of the ships, like the volume on WWII cruisers. I prefer side and top view color drawings like the ones in their volume on WWII BB,s. A must have for those interested in French ships of this period.

Mine arrived yesterday. Was only able to give it a cursory look, but it looks good.

It will be a fantastic reference filling another gap in my knowledge These fine authors have done a great job with their treatment of French warships from 1922-1956.
